A Unity Rally was held in the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City on Sunday afternoon. The non-partisan and public demonstration was planned to raise awareness of and show support for the Black Lives Matter and current Civil Rights Movement sweeping across the nation. Business is boomin’ for a local business as we approach the 4th of July holiday weekend. Local Man Works to Save Fireworks Again

For the second year in a row, Eric Rayner has fought to save the fireworks display. And he will get his wish. Council voted on June 17 to have the 2020 fireworks. Last year, the concern was a lack of funding. This year, the fireworks are fully funded but when the Annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival was canceled for 2020, Rayner decided he did not want that to include a cancellation of the fireworks. Bernstine Applauds Senate Committee Approval of Markie’s Law Bill

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) applauded Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) and members of the committee for unanimously passing his legislation that would preclude the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole from paroling an inmate at the expiration of his or her minimum sentence if the inmate was convicted of a violent offense or an obstruction of justice while incarcerated. PLAY BALL! Local Youth Summer Seasons Beginning

Typically, a summer season for baseball and softball would be filled with play-off games and tournaments, but since the pandemic, local youth baseball and softball organizations have decided to use whatever they can of the summer to give the local youth a chance to play this year. Local leagues like the Ellwood City Girls Softball League, will only have 5 teams for their 13-18 age group and 3 teams for their 9-12 age group. Ellwood City Little League Season Begins

The Ellwood City Little League, one of Pennsylavania’s oldest Little League programs, begins its’ season on Tuesday night. The league, which was of one of just over 300 leagues in North America in 1950, begins its’ 71st season with four teams-The Moose, Lions, Wolves and WesBanco. The Moose Club and Lions Club have been team sponsors since the leagues inception. The league managers are Tim Kennedy for the Lions, Keith Keller for the Moose, Jim Bleakney for WesBanco and Doug Hogue for the Wolves. WesBanco will meet the Moose at 6:00 on Tuesday night.
