Riverside To Start Summer Meal Program

The Riverside cafeteria staff will begin the summer meal program the week of June 14, 2021. Riverside will offer a 5-day package for pick-up every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. The pick-up location is expected to be at the Middle School. However, the location may change to the elementary school due to construction projects throughout the district. Food service staff will pack bags on Mondays and distribute on Tuesdays. The package will consist of 5 lunch meals, 5 breakfast meals, and a 1/2 gallon of white milk. The summer meal service is free for all district children age 18 and under….

VIDEO: Ongoing Investigation Into An Early Morning Shooting On Mercer Road

According to multiple news reports, a man was shot early Tuesday morning in Ellwood City, Lawrence County. The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. on Mercer Road, near Cutoff Street. Police had Mercer Road blocked off with crime scene tape and at least a dozen evidence markers were placed on the road. An SUV that had its windows shot out was towed away. The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, officials said. Riverside Gearing Up For PIAA Track Championship

Coming off of a “4-PEAT” in the WPIAL Championship and competing this past week at Slippery Rock University, a select few Riverside athletes are getting ready for the State Championship beginning this Friday May 28th. The two day championship event is set to take place at Shippensburg University. Live streaming for the meet will begin at 10:15 a.m. on both days. New Borough Trash Contract Anticipated To Begin July 1

In a statement made available by the Borough of Ellwood City on Wednesday, officials now anticipate the new trash contract to begin July 1, 2021. A press release reads as follows: The new Ellwood City Trash Contract is anticipated to begin July 1, 2021. The trash cart manufacturer has given Valley Waste an estimated delivery time of mid-June. When the carts arrive, Valley Waste and Ellwood City Public Works will work together to deliver the carts to customer addresses. The new contract will start on the first of the following month. House Committee Passes Bernstine Constitutional Carry Legislation

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today that his legislation which would no longer require law-abiding citizens to obtain a government-issued license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania passed the House Judiciary Committee. Bernstine called the current concealed carry process a duplicative abuse of the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners. “House Bill 659 defends the rights of the citizens in our Commonwealth,” said Bernstine. “Those Pennsylvanians who follow the law each day should not be punished or hindered if they choose to carry a firearm.” Constitutional carry, or permitless carry, would provide a new system for concealed…

Bench Donated By Lions Clubs to Honor Well Respected Township Employee

Riverside and Rochester/Beaver Lions Club recently donated a bench to honor Randy Syphrit, a very well-respected employee in North Sewickley Township. Pictured below is Jamie Wolf, a North Sewickley Township employee, seated on the bench that was donated in Randy Syphrit’s memory by the Riverside and Rochester/Beaver Lions clubs. “Syphrit was a well-respected, liked and long time employee in North Sewickley Township, he was also a member of the NSVFD for over 30 years.” said Chip Campbell, of Riverside Lions Club. Syphrit passed away in August of 2019 at the age of 52.

PHOTOS: 6th Grade Olympics

Ellwood City 6th grade students participated in their annual 6th grade Olympics this past Thursday May 20th at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. The day started off with a parade of classes in the morning before the events began. The team names represented each of the students homerooms. The teams were as follows:  Agostinelli All Stars; Bing’s Bandits; Mrs.Cortez’s Charging Cheetahs; Morella’s Wolverines; Ott’s Bots ; The Rozanski Royals Morella’s Wolverines won the Tug Of War Championship.
