Riverside Middle School Set To Host Meet The Teacher In August

WELCOME BACK! Riverside Middle School will be hosting Meet The Teacher on Monday August 30th for students entering grades 6-8. Specific arrival times,  locations and parking instructions have been made available. This is an opportunity for parents or guardians and students to become familiar with their schedules, meet their teachers, and to be informed of the instructional and classroom expectations established for the 2021-22 school year. Masks or No Masks: ECASD Board to Vote Thursday

A plan to return to school mask free for Ellwood City Area School District students will be up for vote during next week’s Board of Directors meeting. There will be one caveat to the mask-free plan: Students will be required to wear masks while riding the bus to and from school. This is the proposed plan introduced by District Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley. Shipley asked the board during Thursday’s committee meeting to approve the plan. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

TERRORISTIC THREATS James Urbanic, 71, of Ellwood City, was charged with making Terroristic Threats on July 5th in Ellwood City. Police received a report of terroristic threats and upon arrival of the scene, the victim stated that Urbanic and himself were in a dispute over property on Tara Drive and Hickernell Road. During the dispute, the victim claimed Urbanic made numerous threats and then proceeded to enter his garage to retrieve what was later identified as a shotgun and loaded it in view of the victim and pointed it at the victim for several seconds. BC3 Gets State Approval To Launch Practical Nursing Program

(Butler, PA) The Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing has authorized Butler County Community College to create a practical nursing program on BC3’s main campus, an approval that will enable the college to prepare students for the high-priority occupation in western Pennsylvania. The college in June 2020 announced its plan to establish the program as a result of an up to $10 million partnership with Concordia Lutheran Ministries, a Cabot-based health care provider. Mayor Court Swears In New Full Time Police Officer

Mayor Anthony J. Court swore in Police Officer James Cunningham into the Ellwood City Police Department. The new officer was sworn in at Mayor Court’s office on August 3, 2021. Officer Cunningham is now a full-time officer. The Ellwood City Police Department  now has 11 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers in the department. RESULTS: 2021 Delmar Golf Course Championship

The annual Delmar Golf Course Club Championship was held Saturday July 31, and Sunday August 1, 2021, which consisted of over 40 Delmar members. Here are the results from the 2021 Championship. Lino Simeoni collected his 2nd title with a 2 and 1 victory over Brad Linville in the championship bracket. Ellwood City golf team Senior and team Captain Milo Sesti claimed the A-Flight championship with a 3 and 2 victory over Rosie Tammaro. Riverside Set To Host Meet The Teacher This August

BACK TO SCHOOL! Riverside Elementary School will be hosting Meet The Teacher on Monday August 30th for children in grades 3-5. With the limited parking and space available, the times will be staggered. It is being respectfully requested that additional family members do not attend and that only the parents and child attend in the given time slot. Schedules will be made available on Skyward by August 16th. At 11:00 a.m. 3rd grade students will meet in the Middle School Gymnasium for a brief welcome by their new principal, Alicia Dwyer. PHOTOS: Franklin Township 8th Annual National Night Out

Franklin Township celebrated and held their 8th Annual National Night Out Event Tuesday evening under warm, sunny skies at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. The event featured free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The popular Penguins mascot Iceburgh also made his appearance bringing joy to all those in attendance. The National Night Out initiative began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Beaver County Man Admits Lying on Firearms Purchase Forms

PITTSBURGH, PA – A resident of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, has pled guilty to a charge of making a false statement to purchase firearms, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced this last week. Calvin Brady Jr, age 24, plead guilty before Judge David S. Cercone on July 29, 2021. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on December 12, 2020, the Brady Jr. purchased four Taurus, model GC3, 9mm caliber pistols from Rural King Holdings LLP, a federal firearm licensee in Monaca, PA. Riverside Claims 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament

AND THE CHAMPION IS…Riverside downed Ellwood City 3-1 to win the 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Sunday night at Freidhoff Field. Dylan Meyer led Riverside to victory with a home run and two RBI’s. This victory gave Riverside their fifth title in the tournament and their first since 2012. Riverside scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. With one out, Matthew Santillo singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch.
