Ellwood City Native Debra Todd To Be Formally Installed As Chief Justice on Friday

Ellwood City native and Pennsylvania state Supreme Court Justice Debra Todd will be formally installed as chief justice in a ceremony set for Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Omni William Penn hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. Todd will become the first female chief justice in the 300-year history of Pennsylvania high court. The 1975 Lincoln High School graduate became the chief justice on October 1st, following the September 30th death of former Chief Justice David Max Baer at 74. Local Boxer to be Featured in Fight on Showtime

Ellwood City’s prized fighter Rosalindo Morales has come a long way from stepping in the ring for the first time when he was 13 years old. This Friday he will be featured in a fight on Showtime’s Shobox: The New Generation live at 9:00 p.m. Morales will be part of three bouts that will take place at the Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, Pa. In the 8-round Super Featherweight bout, Morales will face Julian Gonzalez, an undefeated fighter from Reading, Pa. Ellwood City Winter Wine & Brew Fest To Be Held Next Weekend

Tickets are still available for the upcoming Ellwood City Winter Wine and Brew Fest. The annual event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Sons of Italy at 808 Lawrence Ave. The event is a crowd favorite and proceeds benefit Ellwood City Revitalization. The cost is $25 per person in advance and $30 per person at the door. The event will be catered, and a cash bar will be available. Riverside Rallies, Knocks Off Wolverines In Overtime

After trailing by as many as 20 points late in the third quarter, the visiting Riverside Panthers rallied to force overtime and pull away for a thrilling 50-47 victory over Ellwood City Tuesday night. Sophomore Drake Fox’s 3-pointers with under 15 seconds in regulation knotted the game. Ellwood City had led 35-15 with two and half minutes remining in the third quarter after holding a comfortable 22-12 advantage after a relatively low scoring first half. Two Junior High Wrestlers Place At Indiana Tournament

Ellwood City junior high wrestlers Brayden McClure (87-pound class) and Cheyenne Berglund (94-pound class) each placed fourth for the Wolverines in a 23-team wrestling tournament held last weekend. The team competed in the Indiana (PA) Eagles/Good & Associates Tournament on Saturday, January 14th. McClure and Berglund each reached the 3rd place match in their respective weight class in the tournament. McClure finished with a 4-2 record while Berglund finished with a 2-2 record. Calvin Church Starting New Program In February

Meet new people & explore faith together. Calvin Presbyterian Church will be sponsoring a new Alpha course beginning February 2nd. Alpha is a series of 12 weekly sessions where you can explore the Christian faith in an open-minded and welcoming environment.  The course is open to the public/community. Calvin Presbyterian Church will host the ALPHA course, run by Pastor Sean Brubaker. Each session begins with a meal, a video, and open-minded discussion.
