Wolf Administration Continues Work to Address Bus Driver Shortage; Encourages Drivers to Apply

PennDOT Deputy Secretary Kurt Myers and Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Secretary Dr. Noe Ortega today joined the Pennsylvania School Bus Association to encourage interested individuals to obtain Commercial Driver’s License to address bus driver shortage in Pennsylvania. “We want to do our part to encourage those looking for employment or supplemental income to consider obtaining a school bus endorsement to help get our children to school. NWS Provides Details of Two Confirmed EF-1 Tornadoes

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has confirmed two tornadoes touched down during the volatile weather this past Thursday evening in our area. According to the NWS report, a EF-1 tornado laid a roughly 2 mile path in New Galilee while a second EF-1 tornado laid a 2.62 mile path in Franklin Township. Both tornadoes had estimated max wind speeds of 90 MPH. The first tornado, recorded at 6:56 p.m. was confined along either side of Fairlane Boulevard/State Route 351 in New Galilee. The Riverside Panthers fell to the visiting New Brighton Lions 34-0 Friday night during its Senior Night game at Riverside Memorial Stadium. Saint Vincent College Players Present ‘CLUE: On Stage!’ October 29-31

LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent College Players will present three performances of the comedy, “Clue: On Stage!” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, Saturday, Oct. 30 and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 31, in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, PROPERTY DAMAGE: According to a criminal complaint, on September 26 Ellwood City Police responded to a domestic incident at a residence on Perry Street. Upon arrival police made contact with Tyler Clingensmith, 26, of Ellwood City and a female outside the residence. It was found that Clingensmith was highly intoxicated and had taken the female’s Jeep off-roading and possibly totaled it. Police observed the Jeep covered in mud with damage underneath and a pip hanging. Clingensmith stated he took the Jeep all through Stiefel Park and on and off the trails at the park.  Police placed Clingensmith in…


Ellwood City Baseball Wraps Up Impressive Fall Campaign

The Ellwood City High School baseball team wrapped up an impressive fall campaign, making a run in the single elimination playoff tournament before ultimately falling to defending WPIAL Champion Hopewell last weekend. The Wolverines finished 8-4-1 earning a 3-seed in the playoff picture. Ellwood City defeated Beaver Falls and Riverside before falling 6-0 to the Vikings in the championship game. Calling all ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and any other scary or funny outfits to get a laugh or scream – it’s time again for the annual EllwoodCity.org Halloween Costume Contest. Each year we have received dozens of entries – and 2021 will be no different!  Let’s make this year even more spooky or funny with your son or daughter’s costume photo submission! ECASD Changes Date of December Board Meeting

In a notice made available Monday afternoon, the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors have changed the date of their December board meeting. According to the notice, the December board meeting that was originally scheduled for December 2, 2021 has been moved to December 9, 2021. The re-organization meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Combined Committee Meeting and Regular Meeting will immediately follow. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Lincoln Jr./Sr. High School.
