Unified Bocce Playoffs Begin Tuesday

Ellwood City will host the Unified Bocce playoffs on Tuesday with both Ellwood City and Riverside teams represented. Eight teams on four courts will compete in a two round single elimination tournament. Each division gets two courts. Game start at 3:30 p.m. with Beaver North Division top seed Blackhawk playing #4 Ellwood City and the Lawrence Division top seed Laurel will playing #4 New Castle. According to information made available by the township, the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 regarding a rezoning request. The hearing will be related to a property owner who owns two parcels of property along Route 288 across from Creek Meadows and where the Mexican Restaurant used to be. Local Fire, EMS Companies Receive Much-Needed State Grants

Grant funding will be coming to several first responder companies in the 9th Legislative District under a program administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), according to Representatives Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) and Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence). INMETCO Declares Bankruptcy

For the second time in less than a decade, INMETCO has filed bankruptcy. The Ellwood City recycling plant filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the Western District of Pennsylvania bankruptcy court on January 31, 2024. According to published reports, eight employees were kept on at the plant after the initial round of layoffs in October and affected workers received no severance pay.
