Ellwood City softball programs are off to great starts this spring, with the varsity squad improving to 4-0 while the junior high team collected a resounding victory to continue its great play. Wolverines Varsity Defeats South Park, Record Now 4-0 Once again, the bats came out hot as the Lady Wolverines beat South Park last night 15-5 at Stiefel Park. Wampum American Legion Offering Another All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast

The Wampum American Legion if offering another all-you-can-eat Breakfast, this one schedule for on Saturday, April 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event is scheduled to take place at the Legion club located at 436 Beaver Street, Wampum, PA 16157. The menu features scrambled eggs, home fries, french toast, sausage, biscuits & gravy, bacon, toast, coffee, tea and orange juice. Costs for the breakfast are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children five years and younger. “The first breakfast was a great success. We appreciate your support,” says Wampum Auxilary Post 749 President, Marsha Moore.

EC Baseball Rallies Past Freedom; RHS Softball Also Downs The Bulldogs

In a rather successful sweep on Monday, the Ellwood City baseball team rallied to defeat Freedom 4-3 while across the Connoquenessing River, the hosting Riverside Panthers softball team also defeated the Bulldogs 8-3 on Monday. Annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration Announced!

The annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at Ewing Park, Ellwood City from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be vendors, food provided by INMETCO, musicians, and childrens activities. Come learn how to protect our environment. Educational exhibits will include information on recycling, littering, environmental programs, trees, community gardens, water quality, microbial benefits, bees, and native plants. PHOTOS: 2022 Easter Egg Hunt

A rainy forecast did not deter hundreds of hoppy-go-lucky kids from taking part in the annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt in Ewing Park on Saturday. The event started at 11:00 a.m. amid overcast skies and ran throughout the early afternoon with hunts for all ages. Additional events included a petting zoo, pony rides, trackless train, and a Kid’s Zone in the Rotary Shelter, which featured crafts, face painting, games and various other activities in the Bocce Court will be games. The days event are provided through The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee.

North Side Primary School Gets “Chill Room” for Social Emotional Regulation

Ellwood City Area School District’s North Side Primary School now has a place where students can “chill.” More than a hangout, the Chill Room has a specific purpose for promoting positive social emotional awareness. Debbie Wiech, the district’s k-2 school counselor and k-12 community liaison, said the room is meant to help students regulate emotions. The room is part of the district’s cognitive behavioral plan and goes along with the district’s positive action curriculum. “We are teaching kids how to regulate emotions,” Wiech said. “To be able to get out of their heads and work through what they are feeling.”…

ECASD Board of Directors Approves Helling Stadium Project

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors awarded the Helling Stadium project to Fred L. Burns, Inc., Shippenville, Pa, at an overall cost of $2,562,405. The major portion of that project will be the installation of Astro Turf at a cost of $2,420,000, which includes removal of dirt, addition of drainage, and labor. In addition to the Astro Turf, the track will be resurfaced with a long-lasting synthetic material at a cost of $64,150 and $7,380 for the school colors to be added. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT W/ DEADLY WEAPON: On April 1st, Chippewa Police responded to Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Township, Beaver County for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, at approximately 4:30 p.m., it was determined that known juvenile, of Darlington, fired multiple shots at two male victims while they were in the parking lot of the business on Blackhawk Road. One of the rounds fired by the known juvenile struck an occupied structure. The police asked PA State Police to assume responsibility of the investigation. No injuries were reported. Felony charges were filed against the known juvenile who currently has an active arrest…
