EC Medical Center: Helping Raise Money for Hayden Hamilton, Offering Flu Vaccines

The Ellwood City Medical Center is supporting Hayden Hamilton, a sophomore at linebacker at Laurel High School who sustained a serious spinal injury during a football game on August 31, 2018. Hayden went through a nine-hour surgery at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to isolate the fractured vertebrae and assess the damage to his spinal cord.  Hayden said he’s hopeful to be home by the end of November. ALL ABOARD! Group Buys Former Parking Lot For Railroad Project

ELLWOOD CITY, PA — Approximately two years ago, an idea to commemorate Ellwood City’s once thriving railroad history was initiated. A group calling itself “All Aboard Ellwood,” a sub-committee of Ellwood City Community Enrichment was born. Raymond Santillo, Executive Director of the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce, Clark McKim representing the Beaver/Lawrence County Railroad Group, and Nick Genova an agent with Howard Hanna Realty Company, began looking at what would be needed to bring the idea to fruition. Ellwood City United Campaign Fund Drive Announced

The Ellwood City United Fund Board announced its 2019 annual campaign fund drive. The campaign will start October 1, 2018 and conclude January 31, 2019. The Boards Selection Committee has chosen six service agencies to seek funds for the year 2019. The Agencies selected: City Rescue Mission, L.A.R.K. Enterprises, People-in-Need, Ellwood City Public Library, Human Services-Unicenter, and Rita Hazen Education Foundation. The Boy and Girl Scouts will receive an annual donation to fund the various programs that promote scouting. The Allocation Committee will review the agencies needs and allocate funds in January 2019. Wolverines Use Offensive Attack To Down The Wildcats

The Ellwood City Wolverines offense was on display Friday night as the running back duo of Rick Pitrelli and Donavin Chambers combined for five offensive touchdowns on the night while racking up almost 300 offensive yards as well in the Wolverines big defeat of the Wildcats 42-14. Beaver County Chemical Recycling Event Planned

On Saturday, October 13, Bradys Run Park Recycling Center will have common household chemical recycling. Recycling will go on from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. There will be a cash only fee of $3.00 per gallon, a few exceptions apply. The list of acceptable items include: aerosol cans, batteries, camp fuel/small propane bottles, chemistry sets, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), gasoline, kerosene, mercury, paint products, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, motor oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, and brake fluid. Pesticides or herbicides like rodent killers, insecticides, weed killers, moth balls, and fertilizers will be accepted along with latex, oil, and alkyd based arts/craft…

Historical Society Fall Meeting A Success – Rain And All

Everyone was welcomed to the first Fall meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.  Approximately 70 people attended the dinner which, because of the weather, was moved from Ewing Park to Calvin Presbyterian Church.  Following the invocation by Charles Brown everyone enjoyed a “picnic” dinner prepared by Nico’s Restaurant. Following dinner, a short business meeting was held.  Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as written. Penn State Extension Lawrence County Holds 2018 Ag Encounter

Penn State Extension Lawrence County is hosting its annual Ag Encounter on Tuesday, October 2 and Wednesday, October 3 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Approximately 800 fourth grade students from the public and private schools in Lawrence County will participate. They will rotate through twelve stations where educators will teach them about local agriculture and livestock.
