Author Uses Local Citizens as Inspiration for New Book Series

Local author Nancy K. Wallace’s second set of children’s theater books was published in September by ABDO Publishing Inc. and some of the themes and characters may seem familiar. Senator Vogel Announces Winners of the Scenes from the 47th Senatorial District Photo Contest

Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. congratulated the winners of his first-ever calendar contest during a meeting with them at his Rochester district office on Thursday, Oct. 22. Ellwood City Lions October Student of the Month

The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Goldieann Bookamer as the October 2015 Student of the Month at their membership meeting Tuesday evening at the Connoquenessing Country Club. Goldieann is a senior at Lincoln High School and an honor student President of the National Honor Society. She has been involved in clubs and activities, but most of all she loves to run. She is a 10-yr veteran of the Cross Country Team and a 6-yr member of the Track and Field Team. Goldieann is also the President of the German Club and plays tuba for the Marching Band. She is a…

United Fund Annual Fund Campaign

The Ellwood City United Fund Board of Directors is announcing its annual fund campaign will start on Nov. 1, 2015 and end Dec. 31, 2015. PA Senate Sends Housing Trust Fund Expansion to Governor

HARRISBURG, PA – Pennsylvania’s state Senate on Tuesday sent legislation to expand the state housing trust fund to the governor for signature. “The Senate’s 47-1 vote coupled with the unanimous vote in the House reflects the broad bi-partisan commitment to a home within reach of all Pennsylvanians,” said Liz Hersh, executive director of the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania. The trust fund, officially known as PA Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE), supports development and rehabilitation of quality homes affordable to seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, low-wage working families and helps homelessness. “This bill is about growth and opportunity. Moose Club Hosts Butterfly Foundation Bash

The Ellwood City Moose Lodge will host the Butterfly Foundation’s 4th Annual Butterfly Bash, in memory of Christina Whelan on Saturday, November 7 at 8 p.m. The event will feature a Chinese auction and DJ Franco. A $5 donation is requested. People are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the food pantry. The Moose Lodge is located on 1400 Factory Ave.

Wurtemburg United Methodist Second Saturday Soup Supper November

The Wurtemburg United Methodist Church will have a ‘Second Saturday’ Soup Supper on October 10 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Soups include stuffed pepper and veggie beef. There will also be Italian bread, homemade rolls, dessert, beverages, and refills. Dine-in and take out are both $5. Children under 5 are free.
