Aspen Institute Names CCBC One of the 150 Best Community Colleges in America

Washington, DC, Jan. 26, 2016 –Highlighting the critical importance of improving student success in America’s community colleges, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program today named Community College of Beaver County as one of the nation’s top 150 community colleges eligible to compete for the 2017 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and $1 million in prize funds, as well as Siemens Technical Scholars Program student scholarships. Local Projects Receive More Than $1 Million in State Grants

Four major projects to improve recreational facilities in Beaver and Butler counties will receive state grants totaling $1,090,000, according to Senator Elder Vogel (R-47). Brighton and Darlington townships in Beaver County and Lancaster Township and Zelienople Borough in Butler County will receive Community Conservation Partnerships Program (CCPP) grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, according to Senator Vogel. CCPP provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, land trusts, river and trail organizations, and other non-profit organizations for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation, and greenway areas. Court was honored to present to Sister Joanne Kokosinski on behalf of Holy Redeemer School’s students, staff, and school leaders a proclamation designating Jan. 31 through Feb. 5, 2016 as School Choice Week in Ellwood City. Ferrante Upholstering & Carpeting “Eve of Music”

Ferrante Upholstering & Carpeting will hold its first “Eve of Music” this season on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. featuring Smokey, Acoustic Guitar. Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. — A new “Coloring for Adults” program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Mayor’s Office: Be Alert for On-Going Phone Scam

Mayor Anthony Court wants to remind residents about an on-going scam that the US Department of Treasury has been warning taxpayers to be on high alert for. Some Ellwood City residents have called the Mayor’s office to let him know that they have received this type of phone call, telling them they need to pay their back taxes immediately or they will be arrested. 2016 Royal Rumble Party

The 2016 Royal Rumble Party will be held at It’s Time Fitness (formerly Walnut Ridge School) on Sunday, Jan. 24. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
