Property Tax/Rent Rebates Now Available in Senator Vogel’s District Offices

Applications are now available for the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and qualified individuals should file as soon as possible, according to Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975. The program is open to state residents age 65 or older; widows and widowers age 50 or older; and, 100 percent disabled people 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded. The deadline for filing an application is July 1…

Leslie Sabo (Sims Street) Bridge Safety Inspection Operations

Bridge Safety Inspection operations on the Leslie Sabo (Sims Street) Bridge in the Borough of Ellwood City will begin on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016. The work will be completed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic will be maintained through the work area but expect minor delays. It’s anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of the workday on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.

Corona D’Italia Valentines Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their monthly meeting Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. at Pizza Joe’s. The session began with a pizza luncheon hosted by President Clemmy Sirimarco and served by trustee Pudue LaCava, member Jackie Court and sentinel Lois DiFrischia. The business session followed with financial reports presented by treasurer Louise Vitullo. She noted that 2016 yearly dues are payable by contacting her. Orator Valerie Valentino, Chairman of the Corona D’Italia Memorial Scholarship, presented the requirements for senior students to apply for the $500 Lodge scholarship. Relay for Life Upcoming Events

The Circle of Friends Relay For Life team is hosting a Paint Party on Saturday, March 12 as a fundraiser for the next Women’s Retreat. Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of Feb. 15, 2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: The library will be closed on Monday, February 15, in observance of the Presidents’ Day Holiday. Mayor Presents Commendation to Loccisano’s for a Century of Business

On Tuesday, Feb. 11, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented Loccisano’s Golden Dawn grocery a commendation for a 100 years of family business in Ellwood City. Members of the fourth generation generation of the Loccisano’s family received the commendation from, as well as a plaque from the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce. “We are here to recognize not one year, not five years, not 25 years, but 100 years of family-operated business in Ellwood City,” Chamber Director Ray Santillo said.

Beaver County Annual Snow Shovel Riding Championship Postponed

The Beaver County Commissioners, with their Departments of Recreation & Tourism and Public Works, have determined that the 53rd Annual Snow Shovel Riding Championship, previously scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13 at Old Economy Park, must be postponed due to weather. The Championship is postponed until Saturday, Feb. 20 or until the conditions on a subsequent Saturday have sufficient snow cover to conduct the event. Gibbons Hears Testimony on Plumber Licensing Board Bill

Harrisburg, Feb. 11 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, heard testimony today to establish a plumber licensing board within the Department of Labor and Industry in Pennsylvania. Gibbons, a member of the House Professional Licensure Committee, said the legislation (H.B. 1357) would protect consumers from unscrupulous plumbers. “I am concerned for the welfare of my constituents, especially senior citizens in Pennsylvania who could be swindled out of their hard-earned money for a household service that wasn’t performed properly because the state doesn’t have a board to hold accountable licensed plumbers in the state,” Gibbons said In Pennsylvania, the plumber must…
