Borough Live Christmas Tree Disposal

Residents may drop off their live Christmas Trees at the Public Works Garage from now until Jan. 31. The garage is located on Glen Avenue and Sixth Street and trees may be dropped off at any time. All items must be removed from the tree and as a reminder, only live trees are eligible. In addition, picnic shelter reservations will begin on the fourth Monday in February (Feb. 22) for Borough residents and begin on the fourth Monday in March (Mar. 28) for non-borough residents.

United Fund Campaign Extended to Jan. 31, 2016

Painting Project Spruces Up Ellwood City Family Center

It was with great excitement that Mayor Anthony J. Court worked on a program with Marion Owens of Sherwin Williams to spruce up the Ellwood City Family Center with complimentary paint and professional painters. Portersville Christian School Information Night/Open House

Portersville Christian School will hold an Information Night/Open House on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the church for families interested in enrolling students for the 2016-17 school year. The school is accepting student applications and registrations prior to the release of next year’s tuition schedule at the end of March 2016. In addition to kindergarten, there are openings in most grade levels for fall 2016. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Celebration

The First United Methodist Church will have a worship celebration for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3:30 p.m. Speakers include Charles “Mick” Jones, police chief of Beaver Falls and graduate of Riverside High School. Jones is also minister of the Second Baptist Church, Beaver Falls. Also speaking will be the Rev. Wayne Cleary, ordained minister serving four United Methodist Churches in the Beaver Valley. Notice of Tax Office Hours for Winter

For January and February, the Tax Collector Office will be open one day a week: Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local tax bills will be sent March 2016. The office will then be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. We accept personal and business checks.

Veterans’ Specialist to Visit Gibbons’ Office Next Week

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, today announced he will host veterans’ specialist Stephanie Bengoa in his Ellwood City office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 to lend help to veterans and their families. Bengoa, of the American Legion’s Veterans Assistance program, will be in Gibbons’ office to assist veterans with understanding what benefits they have earned, filing appeals to existing claims, enrolling in the Veterans Administration health care system and any other question regarding benefits.
