Gibbons announces $225,000 grant for Camp Allegheny improvements

HARRISBURG, Oct. 24 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, announced the Salvation Army will be able to make $1.4 million in improvements to Camp Allegheny, Wayne Township, Lawrence County, thanks to a $225,000 Commonwealth Financing Authority award that Gibbons secured this week. “The camp plays host for adventures of all ages, children to senior citizens. The camp is a vital part of our community and I know this state investment in camp activities will provide fun-filled opportunities, spiritual growth and lifetime memories,” Gibbons said. Corona D’Italia Lodge’s October Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 officers and members celebrated Columbus Day with their annual dinner on Wednesday, October 5 at 5p.m. at the Wolverine Restaurant. Reservations were conducted by Treasurer, Louise Vitullo aided by her member daughters, Patty Kuhn and Maura Greco. Door prize tickets were distributed to all arrivals. Football is a four quarter sport and has been such for many years.  The Wolverines and Panthers found out last night during the 31st rendition of the “Riv-Ell Cup” rivalry match-up between the Riverside Panthers 5-2 (5-1)  and the Ellwood City Wolverines 0-7 (0-6) that sometimes four quarters is not enough to determine the victor. The 31st match-up between Riverside and Ellwood City came down to two crucial drives, but these drive did not actually occur during regulation time – the game between the Panthers and Wolverines had to be determined…


Tax Office Hours

The Tax Office located in the municipal building will be open Monday October 31 from 9a.m.-3p.m., this is the last day for installments. In November, the tax office will be open only on Wednesdays from 9a.m.-1p.m. On December 2, the tax office will be back to regular hours; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9a.m. to 3p.m.

Riverside Qualified for Soccer Playoffs

The Riverside Girls and Boys Soccer Teams qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs.  Furthermore, this is the first time in school history the girls soccer team has advanced to the playoffs. The girls will open the playoffs this Monday, October 24, 2016 against Seton LaSalle at Moon High School at 6PM. The bus will leave at 3:45PM The boys team begins the playoffs on Saturday, October 22, 2016 against Obama Academy at Cupples Stadium at 2PM. The bus will leave at 11:30AM. Also, Skyler Fox qualified for the PIAA Individual Golf FINALS in Hershey.


Orthodox Study Group at St. Elias Church to Start October 22

St. Elias Orthodox Church will be holding a weekly Orthodox Spirituality Study Group every Saturday at 5 pm, starting October 22. Discussions will be based on the book The Mountain of Silence: A Search for Orthodox Spirituality by Kyriacos Markides. In this book, the author presents conversations, reflections, and personal dialogue, plus history and travel information that explore the Orthodox spiritual tradition. Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln Class of 1954, “Nite at the Movies” committee at her Mt. Vernon Drive home at 4p.m., Thursday, September 22. The full committee includes Paul Abraham, James Spielvogel, James Gillespie, John and Patty Tino, Ann Amadio, Rose and Dom Massaro, Jan Keenan, Arlene “Pinky” Maielli, Ilene Gardner, Clemmy Sirimarch and Pudue LaCava.
