Mayor’s Advisory Meeting Recap

On Thursday, May 25, 2017 the Mayor’s Advisory Committee met in Mayor Courts Office. Discussion included the parking ticket issue on Wampum Avenue, complaints voiced concerning a large black dog around Crestview and Skyline Drive. Mayor Court is urging people to trim their hedges when they get too high so that they do not obstruct traffic. The fight against drugs continues with 393 arrests since Mayor Court took office. CCBC Announces President’s and Dean’s List for Spring 2017 Semester

485 students recognized for academic success  Monaca, PA – Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) is proud to release 485 names of both full-time and part-time students who achieved President’s List and Dean’s List honors for the spring 2017 semester. In order to be named to the President’s List, students must have completed at least 12 hours of credit-bearing courses in which performance grades are awarded, and have received a 3.75 grade-point average or above for the semester. Back-to-back: Lady Wolverines Dominant in WPIAL Repeat

Elwood City’s softball team has been a dominant force over WPIAL opponents in recent years, as it carried a carried a 37-game winning streak against such foes into Wednesday’s Class 3A championship game. That dominance continued as the Wolverines scored a convincing 10-0 victory in five innings against Deer Lakes at California University’s Lilley Field. To get that win, the Wolverines (18-0) had to be extremely patient. Ellwood City Woman Most Senior of BC3’s Largest Class Since 2000

(Butler, PA) An Ellwood City grandmother of three was the most senior of the 596 graduates in Butler County Community College’s Class of 2017. Kathie Potemra, 63, of Park Avenue, earned an associate of applied science degree in office administration-medical from BC3. She attended BC3 at Lawrence Crossing in New Castle, BC3’s main campus and took courses online. Potemra, BC3’s most senior graduate by 327 days, says “you can never get enough education.” The 1972 graduate of Shenango High School also earned an associate degree in information management from Youngstown State University in 1997. Back-to-back: Riverside defends WPIAL throne, collects 3A Championship

Last year, it took nine innings and only one run to give the Riverside Panthers the Class AA crown with a 1-0 win over Neshannock. In 2017, it was a new class and opponent but the end result was still the same as the Panthers cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Mount Pleasant Vikings at Wild Things Park to take the 3A baseball trophy back to North Sewickley Township. PHOTO: Mayor Presents Beautification Award

For the past six years, Mayor Court has presented to area residents a special “Beautification Award” sign along with a local restaurant gift certificate. This year the first Award went to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Loraine Buzzelli of Meadowridge Drive. The Buzzelli’s were nominated by an undisclosed resident who felt that the Buzzelli’s had spend considerable time and effort into making their home surroundings extra special. CCBC Appints Kolton Codner First Executive Director of Advancement and Sponsored Programs

Class of ’54 May Meeting

Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln High School class of 1954 “Nite at the Movies” full committee at her Mt. Vernon Drive home at 2p.m. on Thursday, May 11. Lunch provided by committee members was served by Ilene Gardner and LaCava. James Spielvogel was honored for his May birthday with a cake provided by Gardner. Co-Chairman, Paul Abraham, began the business session by commending all the work done by all the committee members. RMU, CCBC Sign 13 Transfer Agreements for High-Tech Degree Programs

Pittsburgh, May 22, 2017 – Robert Morris University (RMU) and Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) are expanding their longstanding partnership to provide greater opportunities for Beaver County residents to earn four-year degrees in technology-related fields. The two institutions signed additional articulation agreements today for 13 CCBC associate degree programs that will transfer seamlessly to bachelor’s degree programs at RMU. That brings to 47 the total number of articulation agreements between CCBC and Robert Morris.
