Born January 27, 1947, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Ada Stratton Hinkle. Born July 31, 1928, in Ellwood City, but grew up in Chewton, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Ruth Wiles Fosnaught. She married Joseph J. Caravella Sr. on February 14, 1947.
