EC Boys, RHS Girls Each Collect 2nd Place Finishes At 2024 Beaver County Championships

The Ellwood City Boys and Riverside Girls Track and Field Teams each collected 2nd Place finishes At Beaver County Championships Saturday at Helling Stadium. The Wolverine boys finished with 83 team points on the afternoon while the Panther girls collected 84.5 points. For Ellwood City, the four man relay team of Nick Wise, Bradley Custer, Drew Steffler, and Colten Crizer posted a 1st place finish in the Boys 4×800 Meter Relay (8:28.62). Beaver County Track & Field Championship Location Changed To Ellwood City

Due to weather circumstances, the 2024 Beaver County Championships Invitational scheduled for Saturday, April 13th has been moved from Riverside High School to Ellwood City. The invitational will now be held at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. Cost for spectators is $5.00. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. and running events begins at 10:00 am.


Road Closures (Again) Due To Flooding

According to the NWS Pittsburgh, Thursday brought 2.77″ of rain shattering a 90-year-mark, and Thursday was the 25th wettest day on record (records back to 1871) for the Pittsburgh area.  This is already the 3rd wettest April on record according to NWS Pittsburgh records. “Pinwheels For Prevention” Program Launched

Mayor Anthony J. Court in conjunction with Children’s Advocacy Center of Lawrence County, members of UPMC Jamison, launched “Pinwheels for Prevention” this week. “This is a program for child abuse prevention and the pinwheels represents playfulness, joy and childhood and has come to serve as a physical reminder of a great childhood,” said Mayor Court in an e-mailed statement. The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 11 met on Wednesday April 11, 2024 at the Connequenessing Country Club providing updates on the golf bash and scholarships. President Mike DeOtto opened the meeting and welcomed club members and guests. Golf Bash Chairman Chris Cioffi reported on the February 18, 2024 Golf Bash at the Sons Of Italy. Big Innings Propel Both Riverside & Ellwood City Softball Teams To Victory

Big innings by each of the local softball teams helped secure home victories on Wednesday. Ellwood City used a 7-run second inning en route to a 13-0 mercy rule victory over Beaver Falls while Riverside used an 8-run fourth inning to bounce New Brighton 13-0. For the Wolverines, Keira Rozanski, Amber McQuistion, Ellie Kalantzis, and Alexis Beck each collected two RBIs in the home victory. Kalantzis, McQuistion, and Kaylee Palombi swatted doubles. April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Mayor Anthony J. Court along with Johnna Johnston, Grace Schmarewski, and Olivia Gaffron, representatives from ARISE, placed sign around downtown Ellwood City to kick off the Awareness Month. This month is the 23rd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
