Wolverines Best Southmoreland 60-57 In WPIAL Consolation Play

Aaron Lake posted a double-double Monday evening to lead Ellwood City to a 60-57 victory over Southmoreland in WPIAL Consolation action. The victory advances the Wolverines (15-10 Overall) to the WPIAL Class 3A Fifth-Place game against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HARASSMENT: On February 2nd at approximately 12:03 a.m. police responded to a report of physical altercation at a local bar in Koppel Borough. Police learned that the suspect left, and later returned to the scene to speak to police. Investigation is ongoing according to a criminal complaint. Ellwood Area Family Center Hosting Youth Baseball Clinic

The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting a youth baseball clinic in March. The goal is to enhance youth baseball in the community and will be open to players ages 9-12. “Our goal is to enhance youth baseball in the community,” says Family Center director, John DiBuono. “Proper fundamentals and baseball techniques will be taught.  Base running, throwing, catching, and batting stance will be the focus of the clinic.” The clinic will be run by Coach Jeff Fotia, former Ellwood City high school baseball coach who won multiple section titles and a PIAA state championship in 2003. Caitlin Kretizer and Delaney Sturgeon combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Lady Wolverines to a 40-37 comeback victory over #4 Keystone Oaks Wednesday night. Wolverines Rally From Deep, Knock Off South Park In WPIAL Opening Round

The Wolverines used the deep ball to rally from a 10-point halftime deficit Tuesday night and defeated South Park 55-51 in WPIAL 3A Boys Basketball opening round action. After trailing 34-24 at halftime, Ellwood City ripped off four 3-pointers and 20 points in the 3rd quarter. Chuckie Schweinsberg nailed three of his four 3-pointers in the quarter. The Riverside boys earned a WPIAL Section 2-AA crown last Wednesday with its senior night victory over Central Valley. This is the 21st Section Title in the program’s history.
