Four Local XC Runners Qualify For PIAA State Championships

Four local cross country runners qualified for PIAA State Championships with their individual performances Thursday in the WPIAL Championships held at White Oak Park in McKeesport. Drew Steffler (9th, 16:20.70), Bradley Custer (13th, 16:34.90), and Lucas Bleakney (23rd, 16:50.60) helped pace the Ellwood City Wolverines team that finish 7th overall. All three runners will advance to Hershey, PA for the PIAA Championships to be held Friday, November 1st. Riverside Panther runner Devin Montileone (22nd, 16:49) also qualified for the PIAA Championships. Bernstine Announces Funding for Improvement Project in Wampum Borough

HARRISBURG – Rep. Koppel Borough Celebrating Grand Opening Of New Park

Koppel Borough will be celebrating the grand opening of the Koppel Playground on Saturday, October 26th with an official ribbon cutting. “This playground will be the first playground that Koppel has had in a number of years,” said Koppel Mayor Athena Pangikas-Miller. Pangikas-Miller said there used to be one where the old Koppel school was, but once the school was sold it was gone. “It’s an exciting advancement that Koppel is going to get to have this. William E. Gillespie, 68

William E. Gillespie, 68, of Grove City, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 after a brief illness. Bill was born in New Brighton, PA on February 21, 1956 to William K. and Olive Mae (Balderson) Gillespie. Bill attended North Liberty Presbyterian Church and Grace Community Church. He was an ordained deacon, and a youth ministry leader. Bill was a volunteer fire fighter at North Sewickley Fire Department and worked as a contractor in woodworking and restoration. Ellwood City, Riverside Each Cruise To Victories

A week after a low scoring slugfest between section rivals, Ellwood City and Riverside each found some offensive firepower in collecting big section wins Friday night. The ground attack was on display as Elijah Palmer McCane rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns as Ellwood City wiped out Union 33-6 and, not to be outdone, Robbie Janis rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns as Riverside shutout Beaver Falls 31-0. Wolverines Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season With Victory Over Shenango

The Ellwood City girls volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-2 victory over Shenango on Thursday evening as part of its senior night. After falling behind 2-1, the playoff-bound Lady Wolverines dispatched the Wildcats with victories in the final two sets to secure the section victory. The victory improved the Lady Wolverines record to 13-4 for the 2024 regular season. The team finished 9-3 in the WPIAL Class 2A Section 4, good for second place behind Neshannock. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

ASSAULT: Lawrence Morini, 22, of Wampum, is charged with Simple Assault after an incident occurring on September 28th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 10:58 p.m. ECPD Officers were dispatched to a nearby bar for reports of an assault that occurred. When police arrived, ECFD was conducting CPR on the victim and witnesses explained the situation to officers. The owner of the bar was contacted and showed ECPD Police video footage of the incident.
