Library Activities Week of January 11, 2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. – The Library Anniversary Committee will meet to discuss upcoming activities and events. New members are always welcome, so call the library for more information. Thursday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. – “Hooked on Books,” a book discussion group designed for students in 6th through 8th grades. Ellwood Wrestlers Win Gold and Silver at MAC Championships

Ellwood City’s Tyler Alberts won his weight bracket in the MAC championships held on Saturday, Jan. 9. Alberts went 6-0 to claim the top spot in the 126 weight bracket. Tyler Baird also earned a medal as runner-up in the 113 category. The Ellwood City wrestling team fell to Freedom 52-30 in a match on Wednesday, Jan. 6. For Ellwood, Carter MacMurdo and Tyler Alberts won matches against opponents. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood Overcomes 10 Point Deficit For Win Against Beaver

The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the Beaver Bobcats 61-58 in Tuesday’s home conference game. For most of the game, it didn’t seem Ellwood City would pull through. The Wolverines were left behind as the Bobcasts outscored them 29-19 in the first half. The teams scored an even 16-16 in the third quarter, so Beaver merely had to maintain its lead for the duration of the game. Police: Three People Charged with Simple Assault Against Woman

One woman and two men were charged with simple assault against a woman and a juvenile male was charged with theft. Darcy Young, 29, from Rochester but currently residing in Ellwood City; Adam Pounds, of Ellwood City; Andrew Mercado, 28, from Ellwood City but currently residing in Koppel; and a male juvenile all received various charges for an incident occurring on Dec. 27. Police: Ellwood City Man Charged with Sexual Offenses Against a Minor

An Ellwood City man was charged Monday with several counts of sexual offenses against a minor. According to the criminal complaint, David Lollo, 34, of Ellwood City, conducted sexual behavior around a 13-year old girl during times she was at his residence. The complaint specifies that Lollo exposed himself numerous times in front of the girl. He also attempted to be in a hot tub while he was naked with the girl, as well as laid naked beside the girl on a couch. In one instance, Lollo attempted to forcefully remove the girl’s clothes. The Ellwood City Wrestling team took second place at the Southside Duals tournament on Saturday, Jan. 2. Ellwood went 3-2, defeating Ambridge, Highlands and Independence. The Lady Wolverines and Lady Panthers clashed at Lincoln High School in a non-conference rivalry game on Tuesday for the LGKG Holiday Classic. Riverside won 53-42. The two teams had started their seasons in a similar manner at the Ellwood City Tip-Off Tournament. As before, Riverside emerged victorious, although the rematch proved to be a closer competition.
