Perry Township Board of Supervisors 2016 Reorganization Meeting

The Perry Township Board of Supervisors held their reorganization meeting at 4 p.m. with their regular meeting immediately following on Monday, Jan. 4 at the Perry Township Municipal Building. Supervisors in attendance were John Zias, James Radich, Tim Boots, Secretary/Treasurer Janice Marshall and Solicitor Greg Fox. No visitors attended. The following appointments were made for the 2016: Board Appointments Chairman position: Boots motioned and Radich second for John Zias to be Chairman of the Board. The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council meeting held on Feb. 15, 2016. Announcements Picnic shelter reservations will begin on the fourth Monday in February (Feb. 22) for Borough residents and beginning on the fourth Monday in March (Mar. 28) for non-Borough residents. Commendations Loccisano’s Golden Dawn grocery store was presented with a commendation for its 100 year anniversary. Police: Employee Steals Money from Customer Transactions

Employee Steals Money Over Three Month Period A Beaver Falls man was accused of stealing $1,499.56 from B&B Express on 324 Lawrence Ave. According to the criminal complain, James Kosto, as an employee of B&B, would pretend to place money in the cash register during customer transactions but would actually place the money in his pocket. This occurred between Dec. 17, 2014 and March 8, 2015. On Oct. 29, 2015, Kosto admitted to stealing money to investigating officers. Hitched and Unhitched: Heart of Winter Edition

Hitched and Unhitched has been updated for the winter months of December and January. The region experienced a mild winter full of mud instead of snow. Overall, the number of couples making radical life decisions via marriage or divorce was rather low. Ellwood City School Board February Meeting Brief

The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Area school board meeting held on Feb. 11: Revenue/Finance A tax refund request was denied. The request was based on an erroneous millage calculation, as the property owner insisted a mil is 1/100,000, not 1/1,000. A motion to approve the audit report performed by the Philip Weiner Company for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015 was tabled until a special meeting on Feb. 23. Police: Man Steals $8,750 Worth of Rings from Former Girlfriend

Man Steals $8,750 worth of rings from ex-girlfriend According to the criminal complaint, Randell Weaver, 53, of Boardman, Ohio was accused of stealing rings from his ex-girlfriend. Weaver lived with the victim in Mercer County in 2014. During this time, the victim had moved several of her belongings to the residence of Weaver’s mother in Little Beaver Township, including eighteen of her rings which are valued at $8,750. The rings consisted of diamond/gold, yellow gold, sapphire, emerald, ruby, tanzanite and citrine. The Ellwood City basketball team and cheerleading squad celebrated senior night before Friday’s conference game against New Castle. New Castle defeated Ellwood 79-23. New Castle remains undefeated this season and are ranked number 4 in the PIAA Class AAA by the Patriot News in Harrisburg. Ellwood City managed to score 14 points in the third quarter. Anthony Roth was the high scorer with 14 points. However, Ellwood City was able to end the season with a victory when they defeated Slippery Rock 40-30 on Saturday. Local Resident to Be Featured Tonight “Get Marty” Television Series

Local resident Joseph Gasper will be featured tonight on KDKA during the popular Marty Griffin series, “Get Marty”, a segment that appears on the six o’clock news. 97 year-old Gasper, one of the area’s last surviving veterans, was injured on Dec. 7, 1941 at the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family had tried several times 18 months ago to get a chair lift installed, so he could safely go downstairs from his bedroom to the rest of the house.
