Larry DeBlaso, Jr., 63

Mr. Larry DeBlaso, Jr., 63, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Hospice. Larry was born on September 12, 1953 in Ellwood City to the late Lawrence and Mary Lapenta DeBlaso, Sr.. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1972, and the Holy Redeemer Parish. Larry had worked at G.K. Garrett’s for 13 years, Fishers Big Wheel for 10 years, American Asbestos for 10 years, Airway Industries for 10 years, and OSG (Opening Solutions Group) as the Director of Quality Control for several years. Medical Company Buys Old L&N Building

With the ongoing concern of the hospital potentially closing, many Ellwood residents are thankful to hear that medical companies are still investing in the local community. Council awarded the sale of the old Ellwood City owned L&N building located in Ellport to Worksite Medical, proceeding their bid of $375,000 for the property. The building was named after its original occupant, a North-Wales based company, Leeds & Northup, which relocated in 1997, leaving the property to industrial authorities until 2010 when the Borough took ownership of the property. Lady Panthers Advance, Riverside Boys To Play Tonight

Riverside junior point guard Sydney Wolf scored a game high 18 points for the Lady Panthers as they secured a first round victory its WPIAL Playoff action Wednesday night in Peters Township. The Panthers pulled away from what became a close game to gain a 47-39 victory over Brownsville.  The Panthers led by double digits at halftime but had to hold on what became a four point game at the end of the third quarter. Notice of Tax Office Hours

As of March 7, the tax office located in the Municipal Building will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12p.m. to 2p.m. until further notice.


Fashion Show and Tea

The Ellwood City Art Club will be hosting an “April Fool Fashion Show and Tea” event, Saturday April 1, 2017 from 1p.m.-3:30p.m. The event will take place at Day Springs Gifts, 316 6th Street, Ellwood City, and will include tea, cookies, music, and entertainment. Proceeds go to producing a coloring book featuring new and seasoned artists from the local community. Adult tickets are $7, 18 and under are $5.

Past and present teammates from Bradley Grinnen’s football days carried his jersey through Helling Stadium in Ellwood City on Wednesday night. It’s the field the 21-year-old played on during high school. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. with a mass of Christian burial held Thursday morning in the Holy Redeemer Church.  Memorial contributions in Bradley’s name may be made to his parents and will be used to establish a scholarship in his name.
