Council Election: One Incumbent, Two Former Council Members, Win

Ellwood City Borough council will reform in December with two new, but old, faces. Former council members Judi Dici, Democrat, and George Celli, Republican won, returning to council after losing an election in 2013. Incumbent Marilyn Mancini, Democrat, won re-election and will now serve a third term. Ellwood City’s Billy Lott Headed for States

Billy Lott will take his second trip to the PIAA cross country state championships at Hershey Park. The Ellwood City junior finished 17th overall in the WPIAL championship on Thursday with a time of 17:50. Lott, who also qualified for states his sophomore year, missed part of the season, including the Tri-County Invitation, due to a back injury and subsequently had less time to prepare for the WPIALs. Beaver Thrashes Wolverines in Last Season Game

The Ellwood City Wolverines lost their opportunity to close the regular season with a winning record. The Beaver Bobcats thrashed the Wolverines 48-17 in Friday’s away game. Senior Nick Ioanilli had two runs in the second and third quarters and senior Justin Baney kicked a 23 yard field goal in the first quarter. The Wolverines were unable to score sufficiently to outweigh the Bobcat’s offense. Beaver’s Darius Wise ran for four touchdowns totaling over 200 yards, including a 93 yard run in the second quarter. Halloween is a time of year when ghost stories, folklores, and other scary tales begin to surface. In and around Lawrence County, one story seems to never lose its fascination. Mary Black, an alleged witch in Lawrence County during the 1800s, has been the antagonist of countless folklores since the 1950s. Police: Man Assaults Ex-Girlfriend; DUI Leads to Rear-Ending

DUI Leads to Rear-Ending Two Vehicles According to a criminal complaint, on Oct. 16 around 5 p.m., Amber Servick, 33, of New Castle, rear ended two vehicles stopped at red lights at intersections on Sixth and Fifth Streets. Both struck vehicles suffered minor damage. Investigating officers determined that Servick was intoxicated. She was charged with two count of driving under the influence and one count of causing damage to a vehicle. The Ellwood City Borough Council may travel back a few years pending Tuesday’s election results. Five candidates are running for three positions. As two candidates are incumbents and two are former council members, it is likely the council will reorganize in December with an old composition. November 3 Election: EC School Board Summary

Five candidates are running for five positions. Barring the unlikely chance of a successful write in campaign, the five candidates will be sworn in this December. However, the school board will see a substantial reorganization as three newcomers will replace three members who chose not to run for reelection. In Pennsylvania, school board candidates do not run on party platforms, so all five will be listed on both the Democrat and Republican tickets.
