Ellwood City Farmers’ Market Set to Open for the Season

The Ellwood City Farmers Market located at the The Beaver Avenue Parking Lot (500 Block) will be opening again for the season starting this Saturday, June 3. A wide variety of things will be sold at the market mostly including homemade and organic items and food. The market will run every Saturday during the summer through October 7th from 8:00a.m. until noon. Live music from 9:00 – 11:00a.m. Free parking downtown.


Mayor Warns of IRS Phone Scam

Mayor Court has received several phone calls from residents about the “IRS” asking for money for back taxes. Once again several residents (especially elderly residents) are being targeted by phone calls stating that they owe the IRS money for back taxes or fees due to them. The caller tells the resident they must return their call or the IRS (SCAMMER) will begin the procedure to prosecute them for money owed. Wednesday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Paint The Town Purple Survivor Luncheon Sunday, June 4, 2017 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Timothy A. Houk, a senior from Ellwood City, received a $500.00 scholarship courtesy of the Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 committee. Son of Tom and Lee Ann Houk, he is employed at the Log Cabin and also involved with the family business, he followed the academic course of study through high school and participated in boys basketball and the History Club and now plans to attend Slippery Rock University to study exercise science. Lawrence County Commissioners to Vote on Allocation Among 9 Local Municipalities

With nearly $600,000 in funding requests but with only slightly above $100,000 in available funds for 2017, the Lawrence County Commissioners will be voting on where $84,500 will be allocated among nine municipalities in Lawrence County. Due to the counties responsibility to maintain only 27 bridges and no roads, the county commonly has an excess of revenue funded by Pennsylvania’s gasoline tax. They often use the excess for distribution among the local municipalities for liquid fuel-eligible projects. Windy Ridge Dairy Farm is hosting their 6th annual Milk Fest on June 3. Mohawk Senior Dies From Injuries After Bicycle Accident

A senior set to graduate from Mohawk High School next week died yesterday from sustained injuries following an accident, reports state. Jordan Bobin was life flown to UPMC Presbyterian after colliding with an SUV Monday afternoon while traveling on Route 18 in Big Beaver on his bicycle. Investigators believe Bobin was trying to cross the road when he was hit. No more information has been released yet. The crash is still under investigation. Updates to follow.  


New Castle Playhouse Auditions for The Cemetery Club

Ellwood City Man Pleads Guilty in Stepfathers Death

Following an incident that occurred the night of Dec. 7, 2014, suspect Zachary Christopher Jones, 24, of Ellwood City, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of voluntary manslaughter and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Jones and his mother Lisa Marie Jones-Orock assaulted Gerald Lee Orock Jr., 57, of Fombell near the loading dock of Loccisano’s supermarket, leading to the mans death. Both mother and son are charged with homicide after being accused of beating Orock with a chunk of wood measuring 32 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and 3/4-inch thick from a piece of furniture.
