Former Treasurer Prohibited from Attending Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival

Suzanne Darlen Bleakney, 50, of Ellwood City, the previous Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, and Entertainment Festival treasurer accused of theft, has now pleaded guilty Friday to one count of theft. Bleakney was facing charges of theft by unlawful taking and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received after supposedly stealing upwards of $1650.00 from the festival bank account during her time working as the treasurer. Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge J. Craig Cox sentenced her to 18 months of probation and 20 hours of community service. She is also ordered to repay the $1,650 of misappropriated…

PHOTOS: Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation Opening Day

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation hosted their annual opening day ceremony Saturday at Friedhoff Field – an event which the organizations Vice President, Michael Widmaier, said was a success. “The weather held off until the end, parents and grandparents paraded with their kids, the high school baseball players applauded the young players as they paraded onto the field, Mayor Court attended, and Nathan Scott threw the first pitch. Overall the day was successful.” The event had carnival style games including a dunk tank, raffle, parade, Chinese auction, home run derby, and the national anthem sung by a local student….

PennPower Worker Killed After Fatal Accident

A PennPower worker was killed Sunday in Wayne Township after a fatal accident involving the bucket truck he was in occurred. James George, 54, of New Castle was working on power lines around noon when the bucket truck became unstable and tipped over, causing George to fall nearly 30 feet. George was with two other coworkers during the time of the incident, both of which remain unharmed. First Energy and the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident and what caused the truck to tip over. First Energy issued a statement saying they are deeply saddened by the loss.

PPA Factors, Energy Costs and Consumption Comparison for February 2017 – May of 2017 and Previous Year

The attached information is being provided by the Borough in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PJM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (PPA Factor) and customer billings during the months of February 2017 through the upcoming billing in May 2017. Comparisons of PPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. Skyla Greco didn’t allow a single run as Wolverines defeated Riverside 10-0 on Tuesday. Greco allowed just two hits and struck out Baily Dwyer to end the game. Wolverines grabbed an early lead. From exotic animal encounters to a trashion-fashion show, live performances, Eco-friendly vendors, and much more – The Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce put together an Earth Day celebration to remember. While the annual event gets bigger every year, their newest addition to the celebration is the Trashion Show. With over half a dozen local competitors, the Ewing stage was filled with fashionable trash outfits crafted completely out of recyclable materials. After dedicating five weeks of hard work in the Arts & Bots after school program, the 5th and 6th graders of Hartman Intermediate finally showcased their dinosaur-robotic creations to the 3rd and 4th graders at Perry Elementary School during the Jurassic Library event Friday morning. Mr. Marsh, the elementary art teacher, Mr. Setzenfand, the Wolverine Workshop instructor and Mr. Skoczylas, elementary computer teacher, were in charge of the club and event. Ellwood City Bald Eagles Return to Nest

A walk to the natural trail at Rodger’s Park yesterday confirmed the eagles of Ellwood City have again returned to their nest to raise this years hatchlings! Along the banks of the Connoquenessing Creek in Wayne Township is a family of bald eagles. Every year, since 2010, the couple has returned to the same nest to raise eaglets. To find the nest, drive to Rodger’s Park in Ellport, colloquially referred to as “The Hole,” and walk down the nature trail toward the Connoquenessing and several islands.
