Yesterday, House Bill 2030, which modifies the Ellwood City borough electric department, passed in a 106-89 vote. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10, New Beaver, will now pass to the state senate. The bill will prevent the borough from transferring funds from the electric department to the General Fund and includes additional provisions for consumer protection. The bill’s language limits its impact to boroughs providing electric to more than one county. Edward Herman Berendt, 78, of Ellwood City, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at home peacefully surrounded by his wife and children. Ed was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania on May 6,1945 to the late Margaret Miller Berendt and William M. Berendt, Sr.  He worked at multiple steel mills in the area and finished his career at the Ellwood City Forge. He was the 1959 Ellwood City Soapbox Derby winner and went on to compete in Akron, Ohio.  His derby car is now on display at the Historical Society in Ellwood City.  Ed loved to golf and played in…
