srMr. Carl J. Thomas, Sr., 92, of Perry Twp. passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

Mr. Thomas was born on August 28, 1924 in Grove City to the late Anthony F. and Lena DeMarsh Thomas. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1943. Carl enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corp. on June 12, 1943 and served as a transport plane pilot in the South Pacific until his discharge in April of 1946. He had worked at the U.S. Steel Ellwood City plant until the mill closed. He then worked at Standard Steel in West Mayfield for several years. He is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Carl enjoyed fixing things around his home, classic cars, boating, and painting pictures.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Ramah Jean “Dunnie” Hulbert Thomas, his son-in-law; Charles Kotuby of Franklin Twp., his grandchildren, Carrie (Mark) Popovich, Charles (Rebecca) Kotuby, and Clint Kotuby, his great-grandchildren, Thatcher, Elizabeth, Olivia Kotuby, and Anthony, & Matthew Popovich, and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomas of Niles, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Carl J. Thomas, Jr., his daughter, Carol Lynn Kotuby, and his brother, John “Chubby” Thomas.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00am in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas Officiating. Entombment will follow at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 9:20am. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday by 10:45am to conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions in Mr. Thomas’s name may be made to the Holy Redeemer Church.
