Mr. Thomas P. Costa, Jr., 66, of Wayne Twp. passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Allegheny General Hospital with by his loving family at his bedside.
Tom was born on January 24, 1950 in Ellwood City to Thomas P. and Isabella D”Ambrosio Costa, Sr.. Tom is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1967, and graduated from Case Western Reserve in 1971 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. He had worked for the Ellwood City Area School District as a Physical Education Teacher and assistant coach for the Junior High football team. Tom then Taught at McIntyre Shelter School for several years. In 1979 he became the owner and operator of Cranberry Nursery in Cranberry Twp. until 1981. He then was the owner and operator of C&C Market in Ellport. Tom later worked for Met-Life Insurance Company and then with American General as an insurance agent. Most recently he was working as an independent insurance broker. Tom also was a co-founder of the Ellwood City Kid’s Trout Derby. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking.
Mr. Costa is survived by his wife, Debra Gurgacz Costa whom he married on August 11, 1973, his mother Isabella Costa of Wayne Twp., his sons, Landon (Jessica) Costa of Fombell, and Sam Costa of Ellwood City, his sisters, Florence (Joseph) Santillo, and Mary (Anthony “Tepo”) DeCaria both of Ellwood City, and his brother, Ronin F. Costa of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Samuel R. Costa in 1999.
A private visitation for family and close friends will be held on Tuesday from 3-6 pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A Service for Tom will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Sam DeMarco officiating. Internment will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
