Ellwood City Area School District Approves New Student Cell Phone Policy

In a statement release by the school district this week, the Ellwood City Area School District has approved a new student cell phone policy.

Superintendent Amy Anderson provided the following statement on behalf of the district:

The Ellwood City Area School District has approved a new student cell phone policy designed to create a more supportive learning environment with fewer distractions and greater opportunities for students to engage with their teachers, classmates, and school community.

We recognize that technology plays an important role in students’ lives, and we believe schools have a responsibility to help students find a healthy balance while providing an environment that supports learning and engagement. Recent action by both the Pennsylvania House and Senate reflects the growing attention being given to this issue.

District administrators met with staff, students, and members of the Parent Advisory Committee to listen to different perspectives and determine how we can best support our students.

Our goal is to give students the best opportunity to learn, build relationships, and be fully engaged in their school experience. Students will still be permitted to bring mobile devices to school, but devices will be secured during the school day.

We also understand the importance of families being able to reach their children when needed. Each school will maintain a dedicated, staffed line through the main office for families to contact their child during the school day. We appreciate the continued support and partnership of our families as we work together to support meaningful connections and provide the best possible learning experience for all students.
