It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert R. Witherow, 74, of North Sewickley Township at his home on July 4, 2026 after a courageous five year battle with cancer.
Robert was born in Ellwood City on June 18, 1952 to the late Raymond C. and Jeannette Witherow. He graduated from Riverside High School in 1970. Robert worked at LTV Steel, Aliquippa Works for over 28 years until it closed in 1999. He later worked at DCI and DaVita Kidney Care as a dialysis technician until his retirement. Robert also lived a life devoted to Christ and attended and worshiped weekly at Lillyville Church of God, where he served as a church elder.
Robert devoted his life to his family which he loved endlessly and unconditionally. His entire life was centered around them. They were his absolute pride and joy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Paula, his two daughters, Christe Bukowski (Dave Brown) of Ellwood City, Heather McUmber (Ryan) of Pittsburgh and three granddaughters, Kaylie Yingling (Brandon) of Cranberry Twp., Alexandra Peak (Brandon) of New Castle and Kennedy Brown of Ellwood City. In addition to his family, Robert also leaves behind his sweet Bassett Hound Pearl who brought him endless joy and companionship. Pearl was by his side offering love and comfort even as Robert took his last breath, as she laid at his feet.
In addition to a life of hard work and devotion to his family, he always made time to serve his community and give back where he could through the years. He served for many years as a volunteer firefighter as Assistant Chief at the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Department. He volunteered at Club Hope where he as known as “Mr. Bob” spending countless hours to support cancer patients even as he was fighting his own cancer battle. He also served his church however he could, whether helping in their food pantry, assisting during Sunday services or volunteering at vacation bible school, he was always known for his generous spirit of lending a hand.
Some of Robert’s happiest moments were found on the open road on his beloved Harley, LouLou. Riding wasn’t just a hobby to him, it was part of his freedom and his way of connecting to the world. Robert found some of his most beloved Brothers and Sisters for life in his love for riding. He was a member of the V-Twin Motorcycle Club where he was known as “Yinzer“.
Even after being diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer, Robert fought with unwavering courage and grace until his very last breath. Robert has touched the lives of everyone who he had the honor of knowing him. His selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. Though we will miss his steady presence, we will take comfort in knowing he leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that will live on in all of us. His love, wisdom and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him and we will carry on his memory forward with gratitude, honoring him not only in words, but in the way we live our lives.
As per Robert’s wishes, there will be a private service for immediate family only. A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangement have been entrusted to the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory.
