Mr. John E. Schilling, 100, of Harmony passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12th, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Schilling was the son of the late James and Margaret (Bach) Schilling, Sr. born on August 22nd, 1924 in Pittsburgh. At the age of 15 John took a train to the state of Washington to join the CCC (civilian conservation corps). After 2 years he returned to Pittsburgh and went to work for the Penn Central Railroad first as a laborer and later as a foreman. He retired from the rail yard in Conway in 1984. He is a member of the Divine Grace Parish. John enjoyed hunting, was an avid reader and loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He will always be remembered as being a giving person never a taker.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dorothy “Dot” Schilling with whom he made his home in Harmony, grandsons, David (Mellissa) Schilling, Mike (Brigette) Schilling, Drew Schilling, and Matt (LeighAnn) Schilling, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 71 years Harriet M. (Waruszewski) Schilling whom he married on February 18th, 1944 and passed away on August 23rd, 2014, a great-granddaughter in 1980, his brother, James Schilling Jr., and his sister, Charlotte Jones.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 23rd, 2025 at the Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church from 10:30 am until the time of the memorial mass at 11:00 am. Entombment will be at the Holy Savior Cemetery in Gibsonia. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..
