Ronald A. Houk, 67, of Ellwood City passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016.
Ron was born on Jan. 17, 1949 in Ellwood City to the late Walter “Bud” and Eleanor D. Brewer Houk. He is a member of the Laurel High School class of 1967. On March 8, 1968 Ron enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge on Nov. 28, 1969. He had served on the USS Sierra and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Following his service with the Navy, Ron worked at Calgon, which later became Nalco, for 43 years. An outdoorsman, Ron enjoyed going to his camp “Sleepy Hollow” in McKean County from where he would hunt and fish. He also liked watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and going to car cruises.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Misty (Randy) Wilson of North Sewickley Twp., his sons, Johnathan (Machelle) Houk of Portersville, Dan (Karen) Houk of Jefferson Hills, and Joe (Sharon) DeSalvo of New Castle, his grandchildren, Krystyna and Tyler DeSalvo, Keely, Ayden, Jonah, Lilah, Hunter, and Barrett Houk, Matthew and Kirsten Wilson, and his beloved dogs, Brittany and Dozer.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A Service for Ron will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Calvin Cummings officiating.
Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 10:50 a.m. to conduct full military honors. Memorial contributions in Ron’s name may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, 628 Pearson Mill Rd., New Castle, Pa 16101.
