Mr. Carl R. “Duke” Campbell, 87, of Park Gate passed away on Friday, May 17th, 2024 at his residence with his loving family at his bedside.
Mr. Campbell was born in Ellwood City to the late Lemont and Elizabeth (Burr) Campbell on June 14th, 1936. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1954. He enlisted with the United States Army on October 1st, 1959 and honorably served until his discharge on September 29th, 1961 with the rank of E-4. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following his service with the Army, Duke worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill in both Ambridge and Beaver Falls. After the mill closed he worked at Camp Kon O Kwee and Camp Spencer as the groundskeeper, both camps located in Fombell. An outdoorsman, Duke enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting grass for all his neighbors. He was an avid sports fan and loved playing softball in his younger years.
Duke is survived by his wife Harriet (Lutz) Campbell whom he married on March 30th, 1963, daughter Laurie and her husband Mark Duncan of New Beaver Boro, granddaughter Alexis and her husband Cory Moffatt, great-grandchildren Carter, Kinsley, and Kade Moffatt, sister Lena Mae Corrigan of Ellwood City, and his brother Lemont “Whitey” and his wife Mary Campbell of Park Gate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marion Horrell and Margaret Giancola, brothers William, Robert, Lawrence “Richard”, Erwin “Bud”, and Howard “Pat” Campbell.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the Service at 11:00 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery in Beaver Falls. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the cemetery on Tuesday by 11:45 am to render full military honors.
