James T Oliver, 86, passed away on September 29, 2023 at his daughter’s home in North Sewickley Twp. Jim was the son of Edna M. (Miller) Oliver, and James S. Oliver, both deceased. He was born, raised and lived most of his life in North Sewickley Township. He was also predeceased by his wife of nearly 68 years, Cecelia A. (Teets) Oliver on December 16, 2022 and a young daughter, Loretta Louise, on February 9, 1974.
Jim graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1955. He was employed by B&W for 30 years as a foreman on the furnaces. He also worked for Universal Steel in Bridgeville, for several years before officially retiring. He also supported his family with a part-time job as a butcher and proudly served with the North Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was also quick to lend his handyman skills for home remodeling or mechanical repairs to family, neighbors and friends. What he enjoyed most was helping his father-in-law and son-in-law on their farms.
Jim is survived by his 3 children; Richard (MaryJo) Oliver of Cincinnati, OH, James (Amy) Oliver of Mechanicsville, VA and Vicky (Ron) Caldwell of North Sewickley Township. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor (Paul) Carver of North Sewickley and a brother, Norman (Veronica) Oliver of New Brighton. Jim was also proud of his 11 grandchildren, their spouses and 32 great-grandchildren.
A private committal service will be held at the Sylvania Hills Cemetery in Rochester on Monday, October 2, 2023.
The family requests memorial gifts be sent to the North Sewickley Volunteer Fire Department, 887 Mercer Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
