Very Reverend Father John G. Sidor, 94, of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, July, 3rd, 2023 at Cranberry Place in Cranberry Twp.
Father Sidor was born on July 28th, 1928 in Nizny Orlik-Bardejov, Slovak the son of the late George and Anna (Gergelova) Sidor. Father John graduated from the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Presov, Slovakia earning a Masters in Divinity. He worked as Revizor (Controller) in Slovakia. After moving to the United States Father served at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church (OCA) in Ellwood City (Ellport) and in New Castle. He is also affiliated with The Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Ellwood City. Father Sidor enjoyed Bible study/Theology, herbal and alternative medicine, old movies, and documentaries.
Father Sidor is survived by his wife Irene (Bongova) Sidor whom he married on July 18th, 1962, daughter Mariann Sidor of Butler, NJ, sons George (Janet) Sidor of Franklin Park, Pa and John (Oxana) Sidor of Newport News, VA, grandchildren Stephen Sidor, Nick Sidor, Alexander Sidor, Timothy Sidor, and Nathaniel Sidor. He is also survived by Tom Sidor (nephew), Vladimir Gerko (niece’s son in Slovakia), Jan Botun (nephew), Marina Castinelli (niece), Elizabeth Mlynarcik (niece), Maria Sidor (sister-in-law), and Jan (Ivanko) Podhajecky (nephew in Slovakia).
Services for Father Sidor will be held on Friday at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday at 10:00 am at The Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Ellwood City. Interment will be at the Monastary Cemetery. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc..
