Woman Assaults Woman
- According to the criminal complaint, on Thursday, March 17, at 4 a.m. , officers were dispatched to a Fifth Street apartment for a domestic disturbance. When the officers arrived they could hear screaming coming from the upstairs apartment. Officers entered the apartment and made contact with the victim and the defendant, Melissa Star Sabo, 35. When questioned, Sabo stated that they merely arguing. However, the victim stated that Sabo had harassed and threatened her. She also said that Sabo had slammed her by the neck onto the bed and began choking her. The victim stated that she did get away, at which point Sabo took her purse and cell phone. When police arrived on the scene, Sabo begged the victim to not tell the police what took place. The victim had several bruises, and Sabo was arrested. She was charged with simple assault and harassment by physical contact. She was transported to the Lawrence County Jail due to two active Lawrence County bench warrants.
DUI Accident
- According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Fifth Street and Spring Avenue on March 13 at approximately 1:40 a.m. The defendant, Billie Jo Reef, 33, of Ellwood City, ran a flashing red light. Reef appeared intoxicated but explained that she had only had three beers. She was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital and charged with two counts of DUI and disregard of a flashing red signal.
Terroristic Threats
- According to the criminal complaint, on March 12 Matthew Wayne Saxon, 35, who is homeless, left his brother a threatening voicemail and sent threatening texts. The brother stated he was in fear of his life. Saxon was charged with terroristic threats with intention to terrorize another and harassment by following into public places.
Vehicle Damage
- According to the criminal complaint, on March 12 at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to Line Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. The victim stated that Joseph Boots, 46, of New Castle, had gotten into an argument with her over registration plates. Boots got into a vehicle and backed out of the driveway, striking and damaging the victim’s vehicle in the process. He was charged with damage to a vehicle and driving while suspended.
DUI
- According to the criminal complaint, Tyler Adam Workman, 23, of Ellwood City, was pulled over on March 12 at 1 a.m. for having a headlight not properly functioning. Workman smelled of marijuana and admitted to drinking. The investigating officer confiscated a clear plastic container containing suspected marijuana and a gold metal pipe. He was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital. Workman was charged with two counts of DUI, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, expired registration, failing to use a turn signal, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
