George G. Laszlo, 94

George G. Laszlo, 94, of Ellwood City passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

George was born on Oct. 12, 1921 in Sunbury, Pa. to the late Emery and Mary Nagy Laszlo, Sr. He is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1940 and the Holy Redeemer Parish. George enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and served with the 2115th Base Unit in Courtland, Ala. and with the 47th Bombardment Group as a pilot stationed in England with the rank of First Lieutenant. George was in the battles of Northern France, Germany and Normandy. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He flew 35 missions, 15 of them in the legendary B-24 Witchcraft, which flew 130 missions over Germany during World War II. George stayed in the Air Force Reserve until he retired as a lieutenant colonel at the age of 60.

Following the war, George went to Duquesne University and graduated with a degree in business administration. He and his brother Julius opened the Laszlo Brothers store in Ellport where they sold heating, air-conditioning and plumbing supplies for 40 years. An avid golfer, George was a founding member of the Del-Mar Golf Course in Wayne Twp. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ellwood City Lions Club, Saxons Club, Hungarian Home and the Elks. He enjoyed bowling and dancing.

George is survived by his three daughters, Patricia (Gregory) Leibensperger of Kutz Town, Pa, Susan (Michael) DeOtto of Ellwood City, and Cathy (Patrick) Williams of Pittsburgh, his grandchildren, Geoffrey (Natalie) Leibensperger, Janine Leibensperger, Monica (Chris) Parsell, Kevin (Joy) DeOtto, Douglas (Alicia) DeOtto, and Nicholas DeOtto, his great-grandchildren, Mackaden Parsell, Nolan Parsell, Santino DeOtto, Jiulietta DeOtto, Ava and Camron Leibensperger, and his step-grandchildren, Megan and Melissa Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances S. Mack Laszlo whom he married on Aug. 30, 1947 and passed away on Dec. 8, 2007, his sister, Mary Bohizic, and his brothers, Julius, Joseph and Emery Laszlo, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 9:20 a.m. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:50 a.m. to conduct full military honors.
