Margaret Scala, 84, died on Jan. 1, 2016 at home in the care of her loving daughter Donnalee and her sister Eleanor.
Margaret was born on Nov. 11, 1931 in Newark, N.J. to Genevieve and Gennaro Leone. She resided in San Francisco, Calif. and West Orange, N.J. before settling in Beaver Falls. She worked in the law firm of Samuel J. Foosaner in Newark, N.J., the Babcock and Wilcox Steel Co. in Koppel and the AAA office in Rochester where she served as Editor of the Beaver/Lawrence County AAA Motorist Magazine.
She was a kind and very generous person with a great sense of humor and a flair for fashion and style. She enjoyed golf and served as president of the Ladies 9-Hole Golf League at the Beaver Valley Country Club. Mrs. Scala is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years Joseph E. Scala of Beaver Falls, her daughter, Donnalee Gillen of Wall, N.J., her stepsons, Charles P. (Cathy) Gillen of Pacifica, Calif. and Edward J. (Denise) Scala of New Castle, and two grandsons, Kavian and Cary Bina of Villanova,Pa. She also leaves a sister, Eleanor Leone of Spring Lake, N.J., a sister-in-law, Jene (Gene) Morabito of Mars, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Scala of Wampum.
She is survived by her nephew and niece, William (Ann Marie) Gawarkiewicz and Barbara Ann (George) Harms of Inwood, W. Va. as well as her aunt, Helen Stanley, and cousins, Patricia (Gene) Mercer, Michael (Nancy) Lombardo, Barbara Jo (Joe) Carlisle all of Washington, Pa., Joseph (Lisa) Leone of Wildomar, Calif., and Frank (Lois) Leone of Wildwood Crest, N.J.
She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Gregory (Laura) Scala of Center Twp., Patty (Steve) Fradkin of Glydon, MD, Ronald Jennifer) Scala of Orlando, Fla., Raymonmd (Bridgette) Scala of Laurel, Pa., Carol Morabito of Las Vegas, Nev., Maryann (Charles) Milcic of Cranberry, and Eugene (Annette) Morabito of Frederickburg, Va., plus several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Wallace Gawarkiewicz. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m in the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Zachary Galiyas officiating. Entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 9:20 a.m.
