Leo E. Sicard, 91

Mr. Leo E. Sicard, 91, of Wayne Twp. passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Edison Manor in New Castle.

Mr. Sicard was born on February 16, 1926 in Northhampton, MA to the late William and Mary Louise Poudrier. He also attended high school in Northhampton, MA. At the age of 17 Leo enlisted with the U.S. Navy on March 14, 1943 and served as a Fireman First Class on the U.S.S. Iowa until his discharge on March 2, 1947. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 9 stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars, and the 3rd Fleet Medal. He is a member of the American Legion Post #157 where he served as commander 1990-91-92-93-94-97-98-99, Deputy Commander 26th District PA 1992-93-94-95-96-97-98-99, Adjutant 1994-95-96-2000, and Lawrence County Commander 1996-1998, and Finance Officer in 1999. Leo was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 252 and was the Lawrence County CMDR office from 1986-1988. He is the past National President of the U.S.S. Iowa Veterans Association from 1983-1984. After taking over the American Legion he helped to increase the membership  by 200 in 10 years. He also is a former member of the Veterans Honor Guard attending numerous veterans funerals.

Mr. Sicard worked at the Aetna Standard Engineering Co. in Ellwood City for 42 years. After the plant closed he worked for the Bracken Construction Co, and as a self employed painter and handyman. He had helped build the Del-Mar Golf Course and the Wayne Twp. Volunteer Fire Department where he was a charter member.

He is survived by his daughter Diana (Brian) Presky of Wayne Twp., his son Terry (Catherine) Sicard of Chippewa Twp., his daughter-in-law Colleen Sicard of Naples Florida, his 4 grandchildren, and his 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Houk Sicard whom he married on August 21, 1948 and passed away on June 11, 2004, his son Barry Sicard  in 2006, and his 12 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services with Rev. R. Tod Custer officiating. Inurnment will be at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Leo’s name may be made to the American Legion Post #157.
