Ellwood City Declares State of Emergency Due to Weather Conditions

Mayor Anthony J. Court along with the borough of Ellwood City has declared a state of emergency today January 26, 2026.

Ellwood City and many surrounding communities received upwards of a foot of snowfall throughout the day Sunday and will be faced with bitter cold temperatures for the next week. In advance of the winter storm the borough provided residents with safety information including local warming centers.

The state of emergency statement from the mayor’s office reads as follows:

“This declaration is being issued with conditions that may pose risk to public safety and essential services. Residents are urged to follow official guidance and limit travel unless absolutely necessary. Community residents are encouraged to report hazards, check on neighbors, and follow any additional guidance from local authorities. After conditions have stabilized, Mayor court will lift the state of emergency and provide and update to residents. Thank you for your cooperation in this state of emergency.”
