At the appointed time of the Father, Mrs. Barbara Prudence Thelma (Reino) Mastropietro, 81, was met by her beloved David to bring her home and lay her into the lap of Jesus, on November 22nd, 2025 at UPMC Mercy Hospital.
Barbara was born on January 17th, 1944 in Ellwood City, to the late Michael Angelo and Barbara Mae (Vigorito) Reino. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1961, from Slippery Rock Teacher’s College now Slippery Rock University with a bachelors degree in teaching and special education in 1965, and from Westminster College in 1969 with a Master’s degree in counseling and guidance. She worked for the Ellwood City Area School District (5years), and Big Beaver Falls Area School District (15 years) as a special education teacher, and Perkins Counselor, and lastly, as a substitute for Riverside (1989).
She is a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church, and was a very active member. Barbara was a Christian Mother, Taught Bible study at the Holy Redeemer Ministry before it disbanded, a member of the Holy Redeemer Pastoral Council, a member of the Legion of Mary, and served on the Holy Redeemer Bereavement Committee. She was also a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and both, Ellwood City Area and Beaver Falls Education Association.
Barbara enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home, reading, writing, and her granddaughters.
She is survived by her sons, Jason David Michael (Susan Marie) Mastropietro of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Dana David Francis (Michelle) Mastropietro of Pittsburgh, granddaughters, Gianna Corleta and Jalena Venecia Mastropietro, sister, Rebecca Ann (Frank Virgel) Fanno of Granger, IN, and sister-in-law Sharon Reino of Buffalo, NY.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, David James Mastropietro whom she married on July 2nd, 1966 at the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and passed away on January 16th, 2023, grandson, Mason Mastropietro, brother Michael Reino, and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou “Max” Reino.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 4th, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, December 5th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Members of the Christian Mothers are asked to meet in the back of church by 9:50 a.m. to form an honor guard.
