Arise Puts Up Bows and Signs in Ellwood City to Honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Throughout October, Arise is recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) by placing purple bows and awareness signs across Ellwood City. These visible reminders symbolize hope, healing, and a united stand against domestic violence.

Domestic violence affects individuals and families in every community. By placing bows and signs around town, Arise hopes to spark conversations, spread awareness, and let survivors know they are not alone.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is about more than education—it’s about creating a community where survivors feel supported and seen,” said Grace Schmarewski, Education & Outreach Coordinator at Arise. “The purple bows remind us that domestic violence is not a private issue but a community concern, and that together we can be part of the solution.”

This year, Arise joins Mayor Court in Ellwood City for a photo opportunity. The agency extends its gratitude to Mayor Court and Ellwood City for their continued partnership and support in prevention efforts that help strengthen the community’s response to domestic violence.

As part of DVAM, Arise invites the community to attend the Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil on Wednesday, October 23 at 12:00 PM at the Lawrence County Courthouse. The vigil will honor survivors, remember those lost to domestic violence, and raise awareness of ongoing efforts to build safer communities.

Arise provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, including a 24/7 hotline, shelter, legal and medical advocacy, counseling and therapy, legal services, and prevention education.

How the Community Can Help:

  • Wear purple throughout October to show support.
  • Share resources and information on social media to raise awareness.
  • Attend the DVAM Vigil at the Lawrence County Courthouse on October 23 at 12:00 PM.
  • Remind friends, family, and neighbors that help is available.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, Arise’s 24/7 confidential hotline is available at 724-652-9036.
