Sturgeon Sets School Record At MAC Championships, Earns MVP

Delaney Sturgeon earned top ten finishes in four events at the 2025 MAC Championships held at Shenango High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Her top mark in the Girls High Jump (5-07.00) set a new school record breaking a near four decade mark of 5’6″ set back in 1986 by Debby Plavecsky.

Sturgeon also earned a 3rd place finish in Girls 100m Hurdles (15.87), 6th place finish in the Girls Triple Jump (34-08.00) and 8th place finish in the Girls Long Jump (16-03.00).

For her efforts, Sturgeon earned the MVP in the field division.

For Riverside, Carson Emerick (161-00) placed 1st in Boys Discuss Throw (161-00) and 4th in Boys Shot Put (46-09.00). Also in the field for the Panthers, Olivia Pettner (7th Place, 8-10.00) and Breanna Pietro (9th Place, 8-04.00) each earned top 10 spots in the Girls Pole Vault while Delana Fox earned an 8th place mark (28-10.25) in the Girls Shot Put.

Allie Barzen finished 4th in the Girls 100M (12.89) and Gavin Lutz finished 9th Overall in the Boys 300m Hurdles (43.53). Devin Montileone placed 2nd in the Boys 3200m (9:49.65) and 5th Overall in the Boys 1600m (4:29.20)

Drew Steffler finished 4th (10:04.69) for Ellwood City in the Boys 3200m and 9th Overall (4:34.91) in the Boys 1600m. Lucas Bleakney also earned a top 10 mark in the Boys 3200m (7th Place, 10:15.09)

Also earning top 10 finishes for Ellwood City are Kailyn Hamilton (4th Place, 5:43.56) in the Girls 1600m, Denim Elchison (6th Place, 5-00.50) in the Girls High Jump, Elsie Sturgeon (5th Place, 102-00) in the Girls javelin Throw.

The Ellwood City boys relay team earned 4th Place finish in the 4x800m Relay (8:25.45) and 7th Place finish in the 4x400m Relay (3:37.14).

The Quaker Valley Quakers earned top team mark for both the boys and girls in the team standings. Riverside boys finished 8th overall and Ellwood City finished 17th overall among the 23 boys teams that competed on Wednesday. The Ellwood City girls team finished 9th overall among the 17 girls teams that competed.
