William S. Montgomery, Sr., 86

Mr. William S. Montgomery, Sr., 86, of Fombell passed away on Thursday, April 17th, 2025 at his residence with his loving family at his bedside.

Mr. Montgomery was born in Tarentum, PA on March 23rd, 1939 to the late William and Eleanor Lucille (Hilty) Montgomery. Bill had graduated from Scott Township High School and the Pittsburgh Technical Institute where he learned the trade of welding. He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on May 29th, 1959 and served with the Company B 8th Engineering Battalion until his honorable discharge on April 12th, 1963 with the rank of Corporal (E-4). Following his service with the Marines Bill worked at Highway Equipment in Cranberry Township for 35 years as a welder and later at Passavant Retirement Community as a maintenance man for 10 years having retired on November 1st, 2014. Bill also loved working on his farm and had a passion for horses. Bill along with his special friends Dick Wiley and Bob Fullmer, whom he worked with at Passavant Retirement Community and would have coffee with every day since, is a member of the Pittsburgh Aquarium Society, and the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. An outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing with his friends, hunting, raising tropical fish, and building model sail boats. He also loved watching western movies, listening to 1950’s music, and especially spending time with his family.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Roselyn and Rick Fontana and Tammy and Ken Bennett both of Fombell, son and daughter-in-law , William S. and Joan Montgomery, Jr. also of Fombell, grandchildren, Cody Bennett, Dylan Bennett, Janelle Montgomery, Sam Montgomery, Brock Fontana, Madison Segar, and Matthew Segar, great-granddaughter, Ellie Montgomery, sisters, Virginia Picard of Pittsburgh and Susan (Bill) Brown of Scottsdale, AZ, and his brother, Robert (Beth) Montgomery of Coldwater, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen (Wyrick) Montgomery whom he married on September 21st, 1968 and passed away on August 11th, 2017, and his brother and sister-in-law, David and Caroline Montgomery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Interment will be at the St. Mark’s Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 10:50 am to conduct full military rites.
