Ten Ellwood City Wolverines collected hits Monday afternoon, and 14 different players reached based as Ellwood City routed visiting Sto-Rox 23-1 at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.
Jordan Keller smashed two homeruns, both in an 11-run Ellwood City fourth inning that induced the mercy rule.
Ellwood City scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second inning and five in the third before erupting in the fourth inning.
In the third inning, Jacob Biskup hit a solo home run to left field, Will Nardone singled, scoring two runs, and Gino Biondi singled, scoring two runs.
The Wolverines scored 11 runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth inning. Jordan Keller homered to left field, scoring three runs, Geordan Bokor drew a walk, scoring one run, Anthony Barberio doubled, scoring two runs, Matt Kelly singled, scoring two runs, and Jordan Keller homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Starter Aaron Lake picked up his fifth win on the young season for Ellwood City. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking none. JaMarcus Pierce took the loss for Sto-Rox Vikings. The right-handed pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering 11 runs (five earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking six. Owen Andrews appeared in relief for Ellwood City.
Jordan Keller, Matt Kelly, and Jacob Biskup each collected two hits to lead the Ellwood City offensive. The Wolverines also collected 11 walks for the game. Gino Biondi and Aaron Lake led the team with two walks each.
Ellwood City (6-3 Overall) will next face the Sto-Rox Vikings again on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
MOHAWK KNOCKS OFF LADY WOLVERINES 6-5
The Ellwood City softball team could not overcome Mohawk on Monday, losing 6-5 in section play.
After trailing by as many as four runs, the Lady Wolverines attempted to rally as they collected two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to tighten the gap to a one run game but could not score in the seventh as they fell on the road.
Rylee Prestopine sparked the rally with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning.
Sara Schwarz went 3-for-3 at the dish to lead the Ellwood City offense. Amber McQuistion took the loss for the Lady Wolverines. The starter went six innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking two. Ellwood City committed six errors defensively.
Ellwood City (3-4 Overall) next hosts Avonworth on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
