PHOTOS: Riverside Edges Ellwood City 40-37 To Sweep Riv-Ell Series

Gabriella Finch and Delana Fox each scored 10 points to lead the Lady Panthers to a narrow 40-37 Riv-Ell victory over Ellwood City Monday night at Lincoln High School.

All five starters scored for Riverside in its victory.

Finch and Fox each collected four field goals, two free throws and hauled in five rebounds while Emma Meyer (9 points) and Camryn Friello (7 points) each knocked home 3-pointers for the Lady Panthers.  Friello scored 16 points in December in Riverside’s home victory over Ellwood City.

Carah Kreitzer scored seven of her game-high 11 points in the fourth quarter as Ellwood City attempted to overcome a six point second half deficit. Kayla Jones knocked home a 3-pointer en route to her nine points in defeat. Elsie Sturgeon pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Riverside led 29-23 after three quarters.  Ellwood City went scoreless from beyond the arc in the second half.

Riverside improves to 11-6 Overall (6-3 Section 1-3A) while Ellwood City drops to 8-7 Overall (4-5 Section 1-3A). The Lady Wolverines will next host New Brighton on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. and will look to shake its three game losing streak.

The Ellwood City boys basketball team will attempt to sweep its Riv-Ell series Tuesday night as the Wolverines travel across the mighty Connoquenessing for a 7:30 p.m varsity tip-off.
