Gareth M. Blyth “Gary”, age 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 13, 2025, after a nearly 20-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1952, Gareth was the beloved son of the late William J. and Dolores E. Powell Blyth. He was preceded in death by his dearest sister, Carol Rose.
Gareth is survived by the mother of his children, Susan Blyth of Ellwood City, PA. He leaves behind his loving children: daughter Robyn (Glenn) Nicklas of Ellwood City, PA, daughter Rebecca (Christopher) Rettinger of Georgetown, PA, son Gareth (Michelle) Blyth of Cranberry Township, PA, and daughter Susie Clapton of Chapin, SC. Gareth was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Easton and Nolan Nicklas, Bailey, Brynn, and Charlie Rettinger, Clara and Cameron Blyth, and Jude Clapton. He is also survived by his brother, Gregg Blyth of Middleton, ID, and his nieces Vanessa and Tiffany, and nephew Justin.
An avid musician, boatsman, fisherman, and softball enthusiast, Gareth found immense joy in his children and took great pride in his grandchildren. He found meaning in coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams. He loved being a dad, but his favorite title was “Pap.” Known for his persistence and unwavering spirit, Gareth’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched.
A private service was held to honor Gareth’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in his memory. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
Rest in peace, Gareth. Your love and resilience will continue to inspire us all.
Gareth was on my mind, and in my heart all last week. I’m heartbroken to learn of his passing. I just adored him!
I’m so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy and prayers.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Big G will be missed. I cherish the memories with your Dad and going to BBB play.
Sue and family, I’m so sorry to hear of Gareth’s passing. I remember how loving and patient he was with my girls, Angelina and Aubrey Chertik, in softball many years ago. He was always so gracious with them and all the girls. You are in my prayers. May you feel God’s loving arms surround you in this difficult time.
