Delida P. Viccari, 90

Mrs. Delida P. Viccari formerly of Ellwood City, passed away on January 4th, 2024 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Delida was born on August 4th, 1933 in New Castle to the late Domenic and Catherine (Adamo) Tommelleo. She graduated from New Castle High School and then from St. Francis nursing school. Delida went on to become a registered nurse, working in the maternity ward of Mary Evan’s Hospital and later at St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church and Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers. She was a “pet-lover” and liked to crochet. Delida was known…


Council Reorganizes, Reappoints Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council held its reorganizational meeting on Tuesday January 3. In a unanimous vote, Brad Ovial was chosen as President and Michele Lamenza was chosen as Vice President. Borough Manager Kevin Swogger was reappointed in a 6-0 vote (Lamenza was absent from the meeting), for a two-year employment agreement for $80,000. General election incumbants George Celli and Caleb Cragle were sworn into office as well as new Councilman the Rev. James “Jimmy” Johnson. RIVERSIDE SWIMMING SETS RECORDS, BUT DEFEATED BY BLACKHAWK The Riverside boys and girls team had their first official section meet of the season against Blackhawk Thursday evening and, as expected, tensions were high and the cheering was loud. Although an individual team record was set and a relay team collected a major victory, the Riverside boys also fell to Blackhawk 88-87. Lady Wolverines Earn 62-40 Victory Over Rival Riverside

The Ellwood City girls basketball traveled across the mighty Connoqunessing River Thursday evening and earned a 62-40 victory over rival Riverside. The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 21-8 advantage after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead as three players scored in double figures. The inside-outside duo of Darren McDade and Drake Fox combined to score 36 points as the Riverside Panthers defeated New Brighton 69-58 Wednesday night.
