Delaney Sturgeon scored a game-high 20 points and Kayla Jones added 19 points as Ellwood City defeated Shenango 59-23 in its second game of the Shenango Christmas Tournament.
For their efforts each were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Caitlin Kreitzer finished with 14 points and Elise Sturgeon finished with six points Saturday to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolverines.
The girls were stymied by Laurel Friday night, losing 64-34 in the opening game of the tournament.
The Lady Wolverines are now 5-4 Overall (1-2 Class 3A-1) on the season and will next host Mohawk on Thursday, January 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
EC Boys Basketball Wins Consolation Game In Mercer Christmas Tournament
Ellwood City boys basketball team routed Kennedy Catholic 74-41 on Saturday to earn its consolation game victory in the Mercer Christmas Tournament.
Aaron Lake – 18 points, 13 rebounds – led a trio of Wolverines in double figures. Chris Smiley finished with 17 points, five assists and five rebounds while Chuckie Schweinsberg knocked home three 3-pointers en route to his 12 points scoring effort.
The Wolverines used a 26-12 push in the 3rd quarter to race away from Kennedy Catholic. Ellwood City led 33-25 at halftime.
Rayvon Wilbon-Venable scored a game-high 27 points in defeat for Kennedy Catholic (1-6 Overall).
Lake had posted another double-double (14 points, 16 rebounds) Friday night but the Wolverines fell to Clarion-Limestone 57-44 in its opening game of the weekend tournament.
Ellwood City is now 7-4 Overall (3-0 Class 3A-1) on the season and will turn to 2025 for its next game versus Mohawk on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Riverside Falls To Brashear 55-54
Drake Fox and Logan Young each poured in 17 points for Riverside but the Panthers let its lead slip away and fell to Brashear 55-54 on Friday. Mike Lee scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the final quarter as Brashear outscored the Panthers 16-11 to rally. Lee finished with six 3-pointers in the victory. Fox connected on four first half 3-pointers and compiled 15 first half points for the Panthers.
