The Thanksgiving holiday rings in the holiday season and points focus on a few things – Christmas, and high school basketball!
The Riverside Panthers boys basketball team collected two victories in the Laurel Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend.
Riverside knocked off Sharpsville 52-37 on Friday and then defeated Commodore Perry 63-31 on Saturday.
In Friday’s victory, McCartney Plassmeyer and Logan Young each scored 17 points for Riverside. Drake Fox chipped in two 3-pointers and 13 points in the victory. Riverside held a slim 35-28 advantage after three quarters and used 10 points from Plassmeyer in the final quarter to pull away for victory. Aiden Cadman scored a game-high 24 points in defeat for Sharpsville.
On Saturday, Logan Young finished with a game-high 14 points and led a host of Panthers in the scoring column. A total of eleven Panthers scored in the victory. Will Sullivan joined Young in double figures with 12 points.
The Panthers used a 16-2 second quarter spurt on their way to a 35-12 halftime advantage.
The Riverside boys basketball team next travels to West Middlesex on Wednesday for a 7:15 p.m. contest. The Riverside Lady Panthers are on the road Monday, traveling to Wilmington for a 7:30 p.m. varsity tip and will then host Union Area on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Ellwood City hosted its Tip-Off tournament and split two games over the weekend.
The Wolverines were knocked off by Union on Friday 64-58 but rebound to post an impressive 66-39 victory over Rochester on Saturday.
Aaron Lake enjoyed a double-double performance on Friday, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Ellwood City who could not hold its narrow 29-28 halftime advantage over the Scotties. Lucas Stanley poured in 10 of his game-high 35 points in a pivotal 17-9 third quarter that pushed Union ahead.
Maykel Cuevas knocked home four 3-pointers en route to his 16 point performance for the Wolverines. Chris Smiley finished with 11 points. Sophomore guard Kaleb Servick dished out eight assists and grabbed four steals in the contest.
On Saturday, Aaron Lake continued his impressive weekend as he posted 31 points to lead the Wolverines to its victory over Rochester. Lake scored 21 first half points as the host Wolverines held a decisive 40-12 halftime advantage. Lake finished 14-18 from the field and also hauled down eight rebounds. Chris Smiley finished with 11 points, seven assists, and six steals for the Wolverines. Eight Wolverines scored in the victory
Ellwood City next hosts Sto-Rox Monday evening with a 7:30 p.m. tip.
