George Laverne Brenneman, 95

George Laverne Brenneman, 95, of Princeton, went home to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

George was born May 24, 1929 to the late John and Geraldine (Newton) Brenneman of Portersville. He was the oldest of six children, proceeded in death by Bruce Brenneman of of Houghton, New York, Jarvis Brenneman of Greenville, South Carolina and Gail Nichols Peoples of New Wilmington, PA. Surviving sisters are Audrey Kay (Dick) Erb of Spokane, Washington and Brenda Brenneman of Mars, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Muddy Creek High School, George attended John Brown University in Arkansas to pursue a degree in broadcasting, but his plans changed when Joanne Clarke won his heart. They were soon engaged and he returned home to be married to the love of his life on October 10, 1949. Joanne proceeded him in death last fall after 74 years of marriage. George never quite recovered from this loss and the Lord answered his prayers by calling him home to be with his bride. Together they had three children, Dale, (Faith) Brenneman of Porterville, Doug (Barbara) Brenneman of Princeton and Georganne (Dan) Monroy of Ellwood City, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, along with spouses were added to the family throughout the following years.

In his lifetime, Georges was employed by the George K. Garrett company, United Republic, life insurance company and the US Postal Service where he worked as a rural mail carrier in Portersville up until his retirement in 1997. A longtime member of the PA Grange, George was an avid gardener and loved to work outdoors until recently. He was active in weekly golf in bowling leagues where he made many friends throughout the years. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes and a game of cornhole later with his grandkids. Always up for a good competition, George never let his age slow him down. He even competed and won the bike races at the Lawrence County Fair at the age of 85. If he wasn’t busy competing or working outside, you’d probably find him in his recliner watching his favorite Pittsburgh Pirates. He also enjoyed making homemade ice cream for his family, which his family enjoyed, too. George’s faith and the Lord was the foundation on which he built his life and raised his family throughout the years. He attended Portersville Bible Church, Faith Country Chapel, Oak Grove, Presbyterian, Calvary Temple, and Harmony Baptist, where he participated in choirs and plays and served on many committees. His legacy of faith continues on the lives of his kids and grandkids, great-grandkids and generations to come. George will fondly be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a great friend to all who met him. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29th, from 10:00 am until the time of funeral service at 12:00 pm at the Portersville Bible Church. Interment will be at the Portersville Bible Church Cemetery. The funeral arrangements entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..
